Randomguy Posted March 20 Share #1 Posted March 20 I have a windowsill that gets sun for a few hours a day, maybe a few more hours of indirect sunlight. The sill in question is 30" in useful length, and 8 1/2" inches deep. What food crops can I grow on my window? I am thinking maybe basil, but can I grow anything more substantial, other than spices? Something that won't grow too tall and would be useful and fun and tasty to eat. I suppose some sort of little tiny wildflowers could be good if a mini urban farmstead could not be set up. What would you do?
Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted March 20 Share #2 Posted March 20 Jalapeños and basil. Basil is a member of the three major food groups on the Italian flag; it’s more than just an herb.
12string Posted March 20 Share #3 Posted March 20 Pretty much just herbs. That would be awesome, just pick fresh herbs for cooking! You can add some LED strips for additional artificial sunlight if needed
ChrisL Posted March 20 Share #4 Posted March 20 I have basil going on mine. I also pulled a garlic head out of the pantry and noticed it was sprouting so I shoved it in a basil container and it’s growing roots & happy!?!?

jsharr ★ Posted March 20 Share #8 Posted March 20 I bet you could find small pot for sale at the local farmers market. Do you have place where you can walk to buy fresh fruits and veggies? Or is there a plant store close by? I know for sure you can buy a window sill garden off of Amazaon.

I've grown herbs, lettuce, and tomatoes. Right now I have parsley and romaine growing in it. I have a separate basil plant and some spinach.
