I think after one more truck load the driveway will be ready to “settle in”so it can be paved next spring.

It's good for the gravel to settle and get driven down into the ground before the final leveling and paving.

Did you put in a base of larger stone (2B) before topping with gravel ?

Cement is curing. Mats arrive on the 25th. The engineer figured that 86 of them will need to be cut.

Drive has to freeze, thaw, freeze to really settle in.

Yes, twice, also some crusher run, now gravel.
