Sure enough; there it is today. Come on, summer time! There's a new book to be released in paperback, which I hope to get: "Glitter in the Green", it's about hummingbirds worldwide. The author goes on a hunt, part nature, cultural, etc.
JerrySTL ★ Posted April 18, 2022 Share #3 Posted April 18, 2022 I put out three feeders over a week ago, but no Ruby-throated hummingbirds spotted yet. According to the Hummingbird Migration Map for 2022, they've been spotted in my area. https://www.hummingbirdcentral.com/hummingbird-migration-spring-2022-map.htm
Page Turner Posted April 18, 2022 Share #4 Posted April 18, 2022 ...there is at least one species of hummingbird that winters over, here in Sacramento. By the time January of February rolls around here, with nothing in bloom, they hit my feeders pretty regularly. Right now, they are occasional visitors, but seem to prefer real flower nectar to the sugar water I serve up in my feeders, even if it is more work. We get a couple of other species as migrant visitors over the fall and spring migrations. None of them seem to be particularly interested in eating at the feeders together, except for the younger small ones who sometimes show up in pairs. There is one guy on the neighborhood Next Door forum who has a nest observation camera set up in his back yard, who posts videos sometimes that are interesting. https://nextdoor.com/p/nKj_Zz8qhChg?view=detail&init_source=search&query=hummingbird 1
Longjohn ★ Posted April 18, 2022 Share #5 Posted April 18, 2022 It will probably be another six weeks here before we see them. It’s been snowing all day and the ground is completely covered. 1

MoseySusan Posted April 18, 2022 Author Share #8 Posted April 18, 2022 I tried hanging hummingbird nest supports in the tree, but they didn’t take up residence. Further south at Bosque del Apache, their hummingbird nests get used. The babies are sooo cute. 🥺

JerrySTL ★ Posted April 22, 2022 Share #10 Posted April 22, 2022 Spotted a Ruby-throated hummingbird today drinking out of one of our hummingbird feeders. I've removed all the other feeders and bird baths due to the avian flu.
