Want me to get you some? Candy Corn was invented in the town were I now live: Belleville Illinois.

Candy Corn History

Did you know that the recipe for the delicious Candy Corn we know and love today, originated in Belleville, IL?

Gustave and Albert Goelitz started their confectionary, Goelitz Candy Co. of Belleville, IL, in 1869.

Now known as the Jelly Belly Candy Co., the second generation of the Goelitz family specialized in the mass production of Candy Corn around 1898. It originated from their recipe for Royal Buttercreams. While production techniques may have changed over the years, it's still the same yummy recipe.

I am sure to die of malnutrition, I feel.

I didn't grab any of my nephew's and friends' candy this year.

My brother and SiL have a get together for about 8 kids who are friends and attend Catholic School together and trick-or-treat together each year.

I join them each year.

This year the kids are in 8th Grade and didn't need a bunch of fathers and an uncle escorting them through the neighborhoods.  So we watched football, ate pizza, and drank booze.

It also is probably the last year the kids go trick-or-treating so there was a little sadness among the adults - the kids will also be split up into different high schools next year.  My SiL is considering a $15,000/yr tuition Catholic High School for son Adam, but I've been telling her that the free public high school that's a 15 minute walk from home for Adam has a better math program and is not a behavioral-problem school.
