2Far ★ Posted July 24, 2019 Share #1 Posted July 24, 2019 "The Pennsylvania school district that recently sent letters warning parents their kids could be placed in foster care if they did not pay off school lunch bills " "The district says around 1,000 student accounts owe a combined total of more than $20,000 in school lunch debt, and four parents owe at least $450 each. " Really? $20 per account? "Todd Carmichael, chief executive and co-founder of Philadelphia-based La Colombe Coffee, told the Associated Press this week that he offered to give Wyoming Valley West School District in Luzerne County $22,000 to wipe out bills that generated the recent letter to parents. But school board President Joseph Mazur rejected the offer during a phone conversation Monday, Carmichael spokesman Aren Platt said, claiming the official argued that the parents who got the letters can afford to pay up." JerrySTL ★ Posted July 24, 2019 Share #2 Posted July 24, 2019 I believe that bills should be paid, but the threat of putting kids in foster care is a few steps too much. I bet that it's going to cost them more than $20K in legal costs.

He is a really cool guy. I love watching his show Dangerous Grounds, not sure if he is still making new episodes.

That is not the Board of Education I was taught with Ed Zachary, the one I know was about 30" long and had holes drilled in it, not sure it was to increase swing speed or to leave a funny pattern on your ass to make the coach laugh louder. Forum Administrator Posted July 26, 2019 Share #10 Posted July 26, 2019 This topic drives me nuts. Kids need food. You can't blame a six-year-old for not having lunch money. The principal before me used to refuse to serve lunches to kids once they had $5 in lunch debt. The kid would just go hungry. I stopped that. Lucky for me, I have a community member that pays off the lunch debt of all the students. Still, I've been trying to figure out a way to offer lunches for free without accepting federal funds for it. If anyone has any ideas, help me out.
