Square Wheels Posted March 22, 2016 Author Share #4 Posted March 22, 2016 I wonder if the fact that he likely had a huge boner for his teacher made it worse?

Zephyr Posted March 22, 2016 Share #6 Posted March 22, 2016 My science teachers were always old and crusty and smelled like old brussel sprouts.or used books.

I saw it the first time in one of those huge lecture halls in college where there's a stage at the front end of the room. The professor used a bowling ball and climbed up on a ladder on one side of the stage before releasing the ball from the tip of his nose. The losses in the system were very small and the velocity of the ball at the bottom of the swing gave the optical illusion that he was going to wish he hadn't done it. Of course having done the demonstration for years he maintained a calm lecture voice through the whole event as the class gasped in fear. One of those great demonstrations that goes a long way toward giving a mental picture of what's involved.

2Far ★ Posted March 22, 2016 Share #9 Posted March 22, 2016 Actually I had a pretty cool old guy for physics my senior year in HS. He has all kinds of gizmos. I don't recall if he did the bowling ball thing but he had a stool & spinning bike wheel, and a small Tesla coil.
