Airehead Posted July 30, 2020 Share #1 Posted July 30, 2020 Do you ever have song lyrics that haunt you? Ones you never forget? Tonight These John Gorka lyrics came drifting though my mind. John, if you don’t know him is a long time singer songwriter from New Jersey which matters in some of his songs. One example, I’m from New Jersey, we don’t expect much, if the world ended today, we would just adjust. It doesn’t matter in a song called Wisdom, but these lyrics always take up space in my brain: Wisdom's still free, but it doesn't come cheap It's found in your dreams not on the nights you don't sleep Wisdom persists, it has an elegant glow It mostly consists of what you know you don't know. I am sure that others haunt me. Like this John Prine line that is out of place in its song but packed with meaning An old man sleeps with his conscience at night Young kids sleep with their dreams 2
The_Karen_Cooper_Incident Posted July 30, 2020 Share #2 Posted July 30, 2020 This is a song by Tool. It's about codependency. [Intro] I saw the gap again today While you were begging me to stay Take care not to make me enter If I do, we both may disappear [Verse 1] Know that I will choke until I swallow Choke this infant here before me What is this but my reflection? Who am I to judge or strike you down? [Chorus] But you're Pushing and shoving me Pushing and shoving me Pushing and shoving me Pushing and shoving me Pushing and shoving me Pushing and shoving me Pushing and shoving me Pushing and shoving me You still love me, you still love me But you didn't need to push it on me You still love me, you still love me But you didn't need to push it on me [Verse 2] Rest your trigger on my finger Bang my head upon the fault line You better take care not to make me enter 'Cause if I do, we both may disappear [Chorus] But you're Pushing and shoving me Pushing and shoving me Pushing and shoving me Pushing and shoving me You still love me, you still love me But you didn't need to push it on me You're pushing and shoving me Pushing and shoving me [Verse 3] I'm slipping back into the gap again I'm alive when you're touching me Alive when you're shoving me down, yeah But I'd trade it all For just a little peace of mind [Chorus] Push it on me, push it on me Push it on me, push it on me You're pushing, and shoving, and scrambling To keep my feet flat on the ground [Bridge] I am somewhere I don't wanna be, yeah Push me somewhere I don't wanna be You put me somewhere I don't wanna be Seeing someplace I don't wanna see Never want to see that place again [Verse 4] Saw that gap again today While you were begging me to stay Managed to push myself away And you, as well, my dear And if when I say I might fade like a sigh if I stay You minimize my movement anyway I must persuade you another way [Outro] Pushing and shoving Pushing and shoving Pushing me There's no love in fear Yeah, I'm staring down the hole again Hands around my back again Survival is my only friend Terrified of what may come, yeah Remember I'll always love you As I claw your fucking throat away It will end no other way It will end no other way Rick
Further Posted July 30, 2020 Share #3 Posted July 30, 2020 John Prine I heard Allah and Buddha were singing at the Savior's feast And up the sky and Arabian rabbi Fed Quaker oats to a priest. Pretty good, not bad, they can't complain Cause actually all them gods is just about the same Pretty good, not bad, I can't complain Cause actually everything is just about the same This is what made me first question organized religion, a long time ago

UglyBob Posted July 30, 2020 Share #5 Posted July 30, 2020 This one sticks with me big time, especially on really down days. Float Flogging Molly Drank away the rest of the day Wonder what my liver'd say Drink, it's all you can Blackened days with their bigger gales Blow in your parlor to discuss the day Listen, it's all you can But don't, don't sink the boat That you need, you build to keep afloat No don't, don't sink the boat That you built... Sick and tired of what to say Jumped away from the ball and chain Breath, it's all you can Rambling years of lousy luck You miss the smell of burning turf Dream, it's all you can But don't, don't sink the boat That you need, you build to keep afloat No don't, don't sink the boat That you built... Singled out for who you are Takes all types to be a man Feel, it's all you can Filthy suits with bigot ears Hide behind their own worst fears Live, it's all you can It's all…
ChrisL Posted July 30, 2020 Share #6 Posted July 30, 2020 Boys Of Summer by Don Henley. In the summer of 1986 me and my HS girlfriend decided it best we not wait for me to come home and we both date other people. I didn’t think we would last my enlistment and we didn’t. I then heard this lyric and man did it hit home with me and still makes me think of the summer of 1986. Out on the road today I saw a dead head sticker on a Cadillac. A little voice inside my head said don’t look back you can never look back. I thought I knew what love was, what did I know. Those days are gone forever, I should just let them go but. I can see her, her bronze skin shining in the sun, she’s got her hair slicked back, sun glasses on... 3
donkpow Posted July 30, 2020 Share #7 Posted July 30, 2020 "EIEIO" has opened new intellectual horizons for me. "Do the Hokey Pokey" has gotten me into more trouble than I care to recall.

Johnny Come Lately Name Posted July 30, 2020 Share #10 Posted July 30, 2020 Not all that long ago, I ran across this in a song called “West Allis” by Matthew Grimm ”Maybe you’re your brother’s keeper not by code or creed or canon but the simple hope that someone will be yours” 1

BR46 Posted July 30, 2020 Share #13 Posted July 30, 2020 I Lived I'd like to teach the world to sing Hope when you take that jump You don't fear the fall Hope when the water rises You built a wall Hope when the crowd screams out They're screaming your name Hope if everybody runs You choose to stay Hope that you fall in love And it hurts so bad (Yeah) The only way you can know You gave it all you had And I hope that you don't suffer But take the pain Hope when the moment comes, You'll say I, I did it all I, I did it all I owned every second that this world could give I saw so many places, the things that I did Yeah with every broken bone I swear I lived I'd like to teach the world to sing In perfect harmony Hope that you spend your days But they all add up And when that sun goes down Hope you raise your cup I wish that I could witness All your joy and all your pain But until my moment comes I'll say I, I did it all I, I did it all I owned every second that this world could give I saw so many places, the things that I did Yeah with every broken bone I swear I lived I'd like to teach the world to sing Oh whoa oh oh oh oh oh Oh whoa oh oh oh oh oh Oh whoa oh oh oh oh oh Oh whoa oh oh whoa oh With every broken bone I swear I lived With every broken bone I swear I I'd like to teach the world to sing In perfect harmony A song of peace that echoes on And never goes away I'd like to teach the world to sing
