Road Runner Posted January 1, 2015 Share #1 Posted January 1, 2015 If you care to post them... I rode 24.2 today, giving me a nice round 3,300 for the year. Considering all my medical issues this year (hospital, rehab, cancer treatment, etc), I'll take it.
Square Wheels Posted January 1, 2015 Share #2 Posted January 1, 2015 That's great RR. I came just shy of 4000, but that's more than a thousand more than last year. I'll try for 4000 this year.
jdc2000 Posted January 1, 2015 Share #3 Posted January 1, 2015 2048 for 2014. August and September monsoon rained out at least another 250.
Dottleshead ★ Posted January 1, 2015 Share #4 Posted January 1, 2015 The most I've done is 4000 miles in my first year about 4 years ago. I've come up with about 2500 this year. I'm setting my sights on 3000 this upcoming year. I love biking but that's a lot of time in the saddle. I do the best with what time I have.
Former member Posted January 1, 2015 Share #5 Posted January 1, 2015 10,368 miles. Not too bad when you factor in the wreck. I'm not as strong as I used to be, but in March it was hard for me to walk 100 feet.

Road Runner Posted January 1, 2015 Author Share #16 Posted January 1, 2015 a lot, but I don't count my milage! As part of the ACA, you will be required to maintain mileage records of all cycling and running starting in 2015. Non-compliance can result in a stiff fine.

But I have never understood the term "elevation gain". What about all of the downhill? I don't understand how you can ride up a 100 ft incline and then down a 100 ft decline and still end up with a "gain"?

Dottleshead ★ Posted January 1, 2015 Share #20 Posted January 1, 2015 I agree. It's not the total number, it's the number that pushes you a bit. For me, 3K is pushing it -- mainly because of the time required to sit in the saddle to do anything more. But 3K is attainable for me.

Dottleshead ★ Posted January 2, 2015 Share #22 Posted January 2, 2015 this year I was unemployed for a huge portion of the year, but in most years I still get about 14k miles and work full time.Cool. I have to think 1) the constant nice weather helps, and 2) the flat terrain where you live. But it rains lightly here, I've lived here my whole life, and I have a roughly 25 mile ride into Seattle on a Rails-To-Trail deal so I have no excuse. Square Wheels Posted January 2, 2015 Share #24 Posted January 2, 2015 Finding the time is the biggest challenge. Riding before work is not an option for me, If I am not on the rode driving to work by 5:15 am, it takes twice as long to get there. I commute about 3 - 4 hours a day, when I get home I am often too tired to go ride, but I sometimes do. I try to ride to work twice a week when the weather is nice. It's 30 miles each way, so that helps pack in the miles. Sometimes on weekends I just don't feel like taking up my only free day riding all day long. I don't race and I don't do group rides so that makes it a little harder to get the miles in. Working full time, commuting 15+ hours a week and taking care of a house is a big burden. I'm happy with the 4,000 (almost) miles I got in.
