I agree. I think he's sussing out his options and realizing he has MANY to choose from. I look forward to hearing and seeing where he lands! I'm sensing you just want "something" but haven't quite landed on what or where. What seems, from the outside, to be a quaint and welcoming place, might in fact be restricted and closed to newcomers. Likewise, winter in one week doses might be a fun adventure, but hibernation for three months might start to be a bit of a chore. Rent and see that you actually love it and fit in and that Yankee charm is what you really want. I have considered renting. Not my first choice being tied up in a year lease. Currently, everything at Springwood will be in storage shortly. Then I'm moving into the lake house temporarily. From there I will check out the Southern Appalachians, but that's were I went to boarding school and college, been there done that. That will get old quick but I will have done my due diligence. From there I am going to bounce around New England renting air b&bs for a month or so here and there. 5

A ton of info. on the 'Net. Vermont is 9,616 square miles. The damaging floods you referenced are in a Central Valley where torrential rains flowed down steep slopes and overwhelmed rivers and houses built on those banks. I’m not sure that the Derby area, on the northern border are the same hilly topography. Something for @Allento consider.

One day I may just decide to pick it all up and move to the desert. I think he's ready for change and his time is running short. His life has been changing and now I think he's ready for a change. Apart from his sister, there's nothing keeping him there. He is free to do what he wants and I applaud him for doing what he wants. I am a believer in inner callings. I repeat: he knows. I am ready for a change. The last few years have been stressful. Forwarded the arts Forwarded science Improved the lives of my friends Honored my family And preserved the environment by giving up my home With that I'm done with duty for a while. I'm going to enjoy the beauty of nature while it still exists. Make some bad art, catch some fish, volunteer at a nature center or something, study French if I move to a border town..... 1 5

Like my niece and nephew, and my sister and BIL refused to move once they got there. Change is Good for the soul, even if you have to be a renegade to enjoy it. So much of Vermont is isolated little towns built on the streams and rivers running between mountains and there's nowhere else for the water to go but up. This was Montpelier. Thank you. I think maybe I do remember now.

I have a friend who lives there. Not too far from the Eastern Townships in Quebec or Rangley Lake in Maine.
