ChrisL Posted November 18, 2018 Share #3 Posted November 18, 2018 Gnarly! About 15 years ago I got a really bad cold that settled in my ears. It hung around for a couple of weeks and was pretty bad. About a month after getting over it I was taking a q tip to my ears and hit something hard inside my ear? I swished the q tip around and could feel something moving around inside my ear?!!! So I took some tweezers and pulled out a 2" black leathery gross worm looking thing. I'm guessing my ear was draining nasty crap during that bug that hardened up in there.
Kirby Posted November 19, 2018 Share #4 Posted November 19, 2018 Don't use a Q-tip in your ear! 1

Although some wax sticks to the q-tip, other wax is pushed further into the ear. There are good ear cleaning kits out there with squeeze balls and a bit of oil to soften the wax and wash it out with warm water.
Longjohn ★ Posted November 19, 2018 Share #6 Posted November 19, 2018 Don't use Q-tips, a better way is to use dental floss and you can clean both ears at once.
MickinMD ★ Posted November 19, 2018 Share #7 Posted November 19, 2018 My 80 year-old cousin woke us a few weeks ago and suddenly couldn't hear well out of one ear. I told her that good hearing doesn't usually go bad so rapidly and it could just be wax. She went to her doctor, who sent her to a specialist, who had an assistant use a water pik to break the junk loose. Now she hears ok out of both ears. It gets pretty hard. About 2 months ago it was bad enough that I went to Costco to get my hearing checked. He says you got a lot of build up there. I went home & put hydrogen peroxide in each ear. Then irrigated with a large syringe. A couple times a day. Took about 5-6 days to get clear
