I brought a big backpack, so now I have two huge heads of beautiful red butterhead lettuce and 5 small heads of romaine, 4 green and one red.  I am eating salad every meal for the next few days, looks like!  I also got a deal on farmers cheese and Fuji apples, but the lettuce was the big score.

I am gonna need to make some dressing!

Sounds excellent meals for a long time

Don’t forget to put cloves in your salad.

  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 Tbs. red wine vinegar
  • 1 Tbs. finely chopped shallot
  • 1-1/2 tsp. Dijon mustard
  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 Tbs. chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
  • 2 tsp. chopped fresh tarragoN

i don’t like kitchen gadgets so I dry my lettuce in a pillow case. Throw it in and take it out back and spin it around.

Oh....nice..I just use a kitchen towel

Before the salad spinner I would just shake it  Actually give it a sling while snapping the wrist to get more velocity.

I was using paper towels or standing it and hoping it would drain, but it didn't work.  The pillowcase is a great idea, though!

Hmm, no shallots, parsley, or tarragon.

I can mince some garlic, green pepper, and add hummus to the dressing.  Maybe add green onion to the dressing, would that work?

I love the crunch of iceberg!

WoScrapr would bring home all kinda "fancy" lettuce. Then ask me if i like it. Most of the time I held my tongue. Every once in a while I would gently suggest that iceberg woulda made it better.

<icy stare down ensues>

I come from a day & time that iceberg was the only thing available in the store. And family wasn't putting out extra for "fancy" My god we had cow tongue one night!

Yes except put the green pepper in the salad not the dressing.

I heard tongue is very tender and delicious.  I have no idea how to cook it.  It isn't in our usual rotation.

Iceberg is one of my favourite garden lettuces. It is excellent fresh.
