Detached Retina

Because of my severe shortsightedness I mean nearsightedness, I am at elevated risk. Ophthalmologist wants me to see a Retina specialist, so next week I have an appointment.
Not to be paranoid, but my floaters seemed a lot worse today.

Not wanting another thing to deal with. And I have Cataracts. I’d rather have Rincolns.

Reminds me of my co-worker’s brother working in a US factory owned by a Japanese concern in the 1980s. Their quality and delivery record was pretty poor lately, and the Japanese bigwigs assembled the workforce and berated them for their poor performance. The Manager screamed Don’t you Americans know anything about quality and on time delivery? His brother piped up, I can think of two things.

This is what happened to me after cataract surgery.  I've had 4 separations, one in the right eye that self healed and three in the left eye that involved tears in the retina that had to be welded shut with laser surgery so as not to let eye fluid leak through the tear and make the separation worse.  Those of us who were severely near sighted tend to have eyeballs that are longer than normal.  Somehow this weakens the attachment of the retina.  As one ages the vitreous gel in the eye thickens and gets better at pulling the retina off the back of the eyeball.

My Cataracts are not yet at the treatable stage. Doctor was fine with letting them alone until I notice them. He said I would notice a drastic change in night driving with the glare.

For me it's like piling on.  I was very nearsighted all of my life (good eye 20/400) till I had cataract surgery in both eyes.  Good vision lasted a very short time as in order I had a secondary cataract in the right eye (laser surgery to remove the wall behind the lens), the separations mentioned above and now glaucoma.  There is a secondary cataract developing in the left eye that the doc want's to leave alone for as long as possible because of the danger of more separations.

In the meantime I've had laser surgery in both eyes for the glaucoma.

I don't buy audio books.  I'm saving them for later.

I have that, called PVD. I go in every year for exam. When the vitreous bag starts to detach from the back of the eye, you'll get some blood in your vision. Mine started out as a streamer and I ended up looking through a screen of dots. The dots settled out but I have one big gob of translucent material in one eye. Not too bad, though.

I have had lots of floaters since I was a teenager, though there are more now.

Macular Degeneration has occurred mildly with my mother and more severely in a cousin so I'm tested for that once a year, though I'm a year and a half overdue for my eye tests.

April 30, 2027 but I’m not counting down the days:whistle:

I remember being that close, but that far away. I decided to move from mid-school to high and do the work I’d originally intended in the time I had left before retirement. I gotta say, my eyesight has deteriorated exponentially in the last few years. I’m glad I made that move.
