Randomguy Posted March 28 Share #2 Posted March 28 I want to believe he was taken advantage of. I really know next to nothing about this, though.
jsharr ★ Posted March 28 Share #3 Posted March 28 Co collaborator. Then again, maybe at some point, 4 million becomes walking around money. I would think he is very involved with his finances. Maybe not. Maybe he justs wants to play baseball
JerrySTL ★ Posted March 28 Share #4 Posted March 28 If he gets away with it, Pete Rose should be allowed back in baseball. 1 1
shootingstar Posted March 28 Share #5 Posted March 28 I find it super hard to believe that Ohtani was not informed verbally of big amounts of money that were invested. Maybe not all the time for every big transaction, but at least, some of the time.
Dottleshead ★ Posted March 28 Share #6 Posted March 28 I think he was in on it or at least aware. It's possible he knew nothing so he definitely is leaning into that but it's not a great way to start out of the gates. People are always going to wonder now. ChrisL Posted April 11 Share #17 Posted April 11 Yeah it looks like a case of fraud to a very large scale. $16 million seems hard to miss but I don’t know his total net worth. I hear his endorsement deals far exceed his past & future salary.

Not that I even remotely know the guy but he keeps a very private personal life and any impropriety seems out of character for the guy. Six years as an Angel and there never a ill word reported on him. Now being a lifelong Dodger hater I’d love to see a ban or suspension but as an Ohtani fan, I tend to think he’s truly a victim. 1
Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted April 11 Share #21 Posted April 11 The stooge (interpreter) places bets for Ohtani. When discovery takes place, the stooge takes the fall to shield Ohtani and future income. It’s bullshit at the graduate level, honed over many decades. Call me cynical but that’s my take. No one is innocent here. MLB is sweeping this under the rug.

Always a possibility and I reserved judgement at first for the exact same reason you noted but there appears to be evidence of actual fraud committed by Mizuhara to gain access to Ohtani’s accounts to wire money to the bookie. Info came out today that strengthens the victim narrative for Ohtani.
