Rattlecan ★ Posted March 19, 2017 Share #1 Posted March 19, 2017 This is not to parody DH's thread, but to continue the game without hijacking it. Mountain bikers will have no inherent advantage here.
UglyBob Posted March 19, 2017 Share #2 Posted March 19, 2017 I'm going to keep my mouth shut on this one and let the others play, as I just rebuilt one a few weeks ago...and several more over the years.

team scooter Posted March 19, 2017 Share #4 Posted March 19, 2017 First gear its alright. Second gear lean right. Third gear hang on tight. Another blast from the past. I was taking these apart when I was ten. We rode so much, we'd wear these pieces down so far they'd shatter.

The younger guys at the shop used to look at me like I was from another planet when I'd go through one instead of just ordering the customer a new wheel.

Yeah, there are a few parts that give it away. This is from the 1965 I just rebuilt (using parts from a 1961 hub).

The star clutch and 4 prong driver give it away as a pre NIG model which remained unchanged for decades.

That looks like an early generation Shimano bell crank, but I don't see an alignment window where there should be one.

I have a 333 hub here that has the alignment window, but I have not seen one exactly like the one pictured. Still pretty sure it has to be a Shimano. Ralphie ★ Posted March 19, 2017 Share #23 Posted March 19, 2017 Rattlecan, this is almost as much fun as you and Longjohn talking trucking, or DH and smudge talking fatties, or smudge and me talking homebrewing.

We have two, an early 70s and a late 70s that are both identical.

For anybody that still hasn't caught it, the picture is a Sturmey Archer hub in disarray, but it's a 5 speed, not 3. And yes, I did get it back together with no parts left over, and it's ticking along nicely.
