Popular Post Kirby Posted July 14, 2019 Popular Post Share #1 Posted July 14, 2019 Currants have long been a family tradition in my family. You can see the original Story of the Currants here. This year I was surprised to see a number of currants. This made me happy. But I wasn't sure what to do with them since my Mom was the one who always made the currant jelly. This made me perplexed. So I went and picked some anyway because they're currants and that's what I do. I gave them to my not wild sister. This made her feel confused. She mentioned she didn't know how to make jelly, and I told her the recipe was in the family cookbook I made a few years ago. This made her feel conflicted. The next week I brought her some more, but it still wasn't a lot since I had a lot of currants this year, but they were fairly small. This still made her feel conflicted. This past week I brought her even more, so she has a nice collection now. She finally said "well maybe I could make some jelly." This made me feel optimistic. Which is odd since I don't really eat a lot of jelly and I still have an inordinate amount of currant jelly stocked in my refrigerator that I will probably never eat. The End. 3 1
Airehead Posted July 14, 2019 Share #2 Posted July 14, 2019 But traditions must be upheld. Try it on a cracker with a little goat cheese or cream cheese then a drop of currant jelly on top. 1
Kirby Posted July 14, 2019 Author Share #3 Posted July 14, 2019 Yes, I've spent an hour each of the last 4 weeks picking currants in the heat and you all know how I feel about heat. I wouldn't do it if it weren't necessary!

Longjohn ★ Posted July 16, 2019 Share #7 Posted July 16, 2019 Are those direct currants or alternating currants? 1
Kirby Posted July 23, 2019 Author Share #8 Posted July 23, 2019 My not wild sister made the currant jelly this weekend! And there were enough currants for my wild sister and I to get a jar and my not wild sister to have two! 3

Carrots only in carrot cake. ...OK, see this is just wrong, wrong, WRONG !!! So wrong on so many levels. Wronger than wrong.....stunningly in error....just beyond the pale wrong. Carrots, whole wheat flour, sugar, chopped walnuts, currants (never raisins), and the usual spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, etc.) And it has to have the traditional cream cheese frosting made with cream cheese and lime juice, with a little powdered sugar. I have a family tradition with carrot cake that goes back as far as @Kirby 's currant jelly tradition, if not farther. Do not presume to tell me what goes in a carrot cake, mister. A carrot cake made with just carrots would be as boring as you are. #bazinga
