JerrySTL ★ Posted August 28, 2019 Share #4 Posted August 28, 2019 Ask him what your Social Security Number is. Then argue about it when he says that he can't divulge that info over the phone.
maddmaxx ★ Posted August 28, 2019 Share #5 Posted August 28, 2019 Hi. Jon here, the Kazakastani IT guy. Do not pay attention this phone call. It is scam I tell you. Your name now on list where first scammed then spammed and eventually your computer is theirs. It is possible to get off this list if you know right guy. I can help before time is out and you are less your computer. Send me your social security number so I can cross it with scammers list and protect your assets. A small fee of $10 US is suitable for this service. I protect my banks from scammers so just send your bank number and I will transfer for you without scammers knowing who I am or what is about. Your friend Jon. 1

MickinMD ★ Posted August 28, 2019 Share #8 Posted August 28, 2019 I got one today telling me my credit card was overcharged and to Press 1 in order to get the problem fixed. As if my credit card companies would bother contacting me - in the past that's happened, but it simply appears as a correction on my statement since it's not the credit card company doing the charging, but a company I bought something from where I caught the error and they refunded money. onbike1939 Posted August 29, 2019 Share #9 Posted August 29, 2019 I'm not sure about all of this fuss. These people have been endlessly helpful and patient with me and I've forgotten how many refunds these gentlemen have given me. Some are clearly new arrivals to my country given their language difficulties but to my mind that is no reason to think badly of them. They have been unfailingly kind when informing me of the viruses on my computer with not a hint of a suggestion that it may be prudent for me to avoid my favourite porn channels......which I thought was very sensitive of them. I do hope that the opinions expressed here are not from any sort of prejudice......I mean that would be very wrong....dear me yes. 1

Kirby Posted August 29, 2019 Share #11 Posted August 29, 2019 Oh no, I hope your social security number isn't being used for bank accounts tied to money laundering!! Actually we joke, but I do feel bad for people who get scammed when the callers have enough of your personal information that some people can get tricked. On a number of scams I've read about, the caller will have at least some of your social security number or other personal info that you would think they shouldn't have. The callers are becoming more sophisticated even making it appear they're calling from legitimate phone numbers at federal agencies.
