Dirtyhip Posted December 19, 2019 Share #1 Posted December 19, 2019 Bah! I snapped my rear cable to the derailleur. I know a very cute mechanic though. So thankful for my realities. He fixes things pronto. ❤️

JerrySTL ★ Posted December 19, 2019 Share #4 Posted December 19, 2019 Snapping a RD cable during a hilly ride is a PITA. In one case I was able to tie the cable to the water bottle holder. Another time I had to jam a stick into the RD to have an easier gear.

Razors Edge ★ Posted December 19, 2019 Share #6 Posted December 19, 2019 My Di2 battery died once. It was fun riding in the granny gear No repair necessary - just a few minutes plugged in to the charger.

On opposite side of the country, too! It's a bad day to be a cable. No way DH call Verizon to fix this stuff since she has her man to handle it.

When I haven't been riding for a while, I even like the granny gear on one particular hill.

Dirtyhip Posted December 20, 2019 Author Share #14 Posted December 20, 2019 It snapped at the leaded end. My husband took the shifter apart and fixed it. Dude has skillz. I'm operatonal again. This is the original shifter from like 2009, I believe. Not bad. It has seen a lot of miles. Lots of rain, and cold.
maddmaxx ★ Posted December 20, 2019 Share #15 Posted December 20, 2019 I do replace cables every few years if I keep a bike that long. The only time I had problems with cables breaking were on the TT bikes where the brake levers and bars had some sharp curves and bad angles due to the internal routing. I guess we didn't get around to it. No biggie. It's repaired now.

He survived the whole ride. I asked him afterwards how the ride was. He said of all of the bikes he owned this was the worst choice for a very hilly western Pa. ride that he could have made. He said never again. I gotta give him credit he stuck with it and didn’t sag.
