  1. It is sad that some people cannot master procrastination.

  2. There is a boardwalk and gazebo across a shallow cove at the lake. During the summer bluegills are always present at the hole in the center of the gazebo, they hide under the boardwalk and dart out to eat. They haven't been there for awhile. Today a little girl and her mom were tossing pieces of bread in the hole in the gazebo. When the bluegills would hit the bread the little girl would jump, squeal, and laugh. The bluegills were pretty good size, all being survivors from last year. The little girl made me laugh.

  6. Why do you get out of bed in the morning? : Most days it's a need to go to a job and earn a living at a job I prefer to any other job I can think of at this stage. That and a hungry cat that keeps meowing loudly. What makes you feel alive? Many things - but most recently one of those cold clear days where the sun is shining and all the world seems to be glistening and bright, and the air is just invigorating. What inspires you? Lots of things in different ways - people struggling with difficulties with grace and good spirit. People who work hard to make a positive difference or a positive impact on other people.. A goal I consider meaningful and achievable - to name just a few.

  7. Well, let me see... Cheese is everything one would expect in a Southern gentleman. Proud of his heritage and his country yet he beckons to the South of old where the niceties of the day weren't paid mere lip service. Back when men were suave and women were cherished. Theologically, he is a solid creationist that was brought into the world by a union of Christianity and Judaism. Fond of all gods creatures and sympathetic to those who suffer whether human or a furry or feathered type. I share texts and stories with him and he always receives the Christmas card I send when addressed to his Greenville address. A genuine man and solid citizen. I like Cheese a lot. He is the real deal and is exactly what one expects. I still don't get the casement window thing. Double hung are far superior. .

  8. Why not? You just did. You've had my number for 6 years other than the 18 times you've intentionally misplaced it. Please tell Lindy how proud we are of him. I read your beautiful thread about your first husband which inspired me to listen to Alison Krauss all day. May I have this dance Mrs. Aire?

  9. My Mom bought me some kick ass pomegranate balsamic vinegar from the Olive pit in Cali. I was going to marinate some sliced strawberries in the balsamic and serve it over some pancakes for breakfast. The balsamic is very sweet with the pomegranate. The bottle has added cane sugar, so I am thinking that we wouldn't need maple syrup on the pancakes. Maybe really fluffy buttermilk pancakes with this. I don't have buttermilk, but that's a quick fix with lemon and milk. Yes, this is a cheat meal with the sugar and the flour. Carb delight.

  10. I'm inspired by my daughter. The day we left the hospital with her, we went straight to an orthopedic surgeon who put her in a harness for her hip. That lasted 6 weeks or so, and didn't work. Off to Children's to get put in a body cast until she was one or so. Never got to hold my infant daughter, I held her cast. Then when she started walking she needed a physical therapist because she was so far behind. She's always been the shortest / smallest in her class, still is. Around age 13 she got diagnosed with celiac too. But it didn't end there. She's allergic to eggs, milk, nuts, fish, carrots, bananas and a few other things I can't remember. She gets reflux that bothers her a lot. Had a few throat biopsies to see what foods might be bothering it. A couple of years ago her orthopedic surgeon (she's seen him all her life for her hip) noticed a curvature in her back. Off to a different ortho guy. He watched it for a year or two, then decided she needed a back brace. She's supposed to wear it 18 hours a day. She's a sophomore in high school and needs to wear a back brace. She's handled this all so well, much better than I ever could have. She's been a straight A student her whole life and is a joy to be around.

  15. I did that but I'm still working. While the retirement check and very inexpensive health care are very nice, it's not enough to retire on unless you lead a very frugal lifestyle. Living on just my military retirement would put me just above the poverty level. Now if you had attained a higher rank, Such as E9 or O5+ and stayed in longer than the 24 years that I was in, then there would be more money. Recently a 4-star general was reduced in rank to 2-star and it's going to cost him about $30K a year. He still will get about 3 times what I do in retirement pay. I also get a little over $2K a year from my teaching retirement fund. I taught a class per semester at a local college for 16 years. That being said, I plan on retiring in 2020. I'll be getting full Social Security plus have my 401/403/IRAs in addition to my military and teaching retirements. WoJSTL retired last year but hasn't dipped into SS or her 401/403s yet. She did start taking an early retirement check from the hospital where she worked for nearly 30 years. Back to the military retirement, a friend of mine retired as a Major after 20 years. He is now 90 years old. He's been drawing that military retirement check for 48 years. Thanks taxpayers!

  20. I would be retired right now if- 1. I could shoot 50% from 3 point land. 2. My vertical elevation was greater than 5 inches. 3. I could dribble as well with my left as I could with my right. 4. If I had a 'break your ankles' crossover.

  22. I feel your pain, Wilbur. I also would be retired if 1. I could invest worth shit! 2. I had gone to work for a better company with a real pension. 3. I had not gotten married and had kids (but I don't think I would have done well as a lifelong single). 4. Oh screw it, the world needs old men in the workplace too, I 'spose.

  23. I get up because people need me- families and children who have much more difficult rows to hoe than I do. I am inspired by watching a young person learn a new skill. The kid learning to walk after doctors said he never would. Running a quiet trail in the early morning fog with just my friend Lindy for company makes me feel alive--- alone is good for the soul sometimes. Counting my Blessings never stops making me appreciate a rich full life.

  34. it If your relationship is miserable you're not doing it right. People get married with the idea that if there is a problem they can scrap this and start over, instead of working through whatever and making it work. My relationship with WOLJ isn't miserable at all, she is my best friend and we are a team. We are deeply committed to each other. I do a lot of activities without her now because of her health but we do a lot of stuff together too.

  39. I have been unable to jump on the wringing my hands oh how can we get airwick back bandwagon because I have no idea what airwick is. I used to think it was female, then decided it must at least be genetically male. Definitely has a strong feminine side. I have never seen a photo of airwick and don't know age or if ever married, ever had kids? It is too mysterious for me. I know it has a strange fascination with casement windows and old photos of women. It has on occasion made statements I agree with but I prefer someone who what you see is what you get. I have a good idea what to expect if I were to meet Beanz, Ralph, RG, Airhead, DH. Etc. I have no clue about airwick.

  42. I can relate to that situation. We live 150 miles from the air port, and any changes are usually phoned to the house after we leave for Billings. My wife is a premier bargain shopper, and will give up her seat in a heart beat for a free flight or cash. More than once I've gotten to the airport, when I knew the arrival time, and wondered 'what the heck'. At least now we have cell phones. She hasn't done this recently, but she is still flying.
