I know it’s not good if a contractor shows up on time. It means he/she is not in high demand. But how late is good. I have a heating specialist coming at noon. But it’s now 2:28. He called 50 minutes ago saying he’d be here within the hour.

Did he say which hour?  That's usually the catch.

Come and gone $150 bucks later, we have heat!!!  And a newer nicer thermostat. Bad connection downstairs. Same thing happened a few years ago, and a different company charged more and I didn’t get a new thermostat. 
This made me happy.

I would say you want a contractor that can maintain a meeting schedule but isn't able to start a project right away due to being busy.

I paid cash. There were two of them, so $150 isn’t too bad. House is cozy. Believe it or not, this is cheaper than heating with gas, which would also carry a one time 8-10K charge too install.

The four electricians I contact either said no, or ignored me. This guy was a heating specialist- which mainly means gas furnaces- that my Sister-in-law recommended.
