Well, maybe, but he is a professor and so is more likely to teach future tech dudes.  It isn't outside the realm of possibility that he would invent something cool and open a company up, but it is also more likely that he invents something amazing and gets a bonus of McDonald's gift certificates from the company instead of lots of cash.

How often did he save everyone, though?

Pretty sure we were saved from that fate by Big Oil buying up the patents and burying them in a vault somewhere and getting some ironclad NDAs in place to keep it that way.
