  1. I was driving home from dog school listening to some satellite radio Bluegrass station. I heard a version of Jerusalem Ridge with Kenny Baker on the fiddle and I am pretty sure my first husband on the mandolin. Maybe it wasn't, I only caught the end of it. Was probably from the mid '80s. If it wasn't them, it still reminded me of them. Things like that put me in the way back machine. No matter how long I've been remarried and how much life rebuilding I;ve done, it always makes me a little melancholy. I called all the girls just to tell them how much their dad loved them and how he continues to watch over them. It puts me in a funk that I can't really discuss with my current husband. Thanks for listening.

  4. For WoZack. Still doing counseling but now for a local school district. School schedule, including summers off. @kzoo your out of your lawn mowing job. At first they offered her 10k a year less than she makes now. This morning they came very close to matching it.

  5. ...you may recall that I had an unfortunate experience with an African-American man that we hired in one of our factories. Things didn't work out and he claimed discrimination. In any case, after trying to extort us for around $50,000 the EEOC dropped the case. The whole experience really pissed me off, and of course we incurred legal fees and other unnecessary expenses. Any way, good help is hard to find. So an employment agency we work with suggested they would like to place some refugees with us. We agreed. So, six months down the line we have eight refugees working for us...Syrians, Somalis, and some other varieties I'm not quite sure of. These guys have assimilated into our work force just fine. They are excellent workers and not surprisingly are happy as hell to have a job. When you think of what/where they came from it is easy to understand why they repeatedly thank us for their jobs. In that factory our safety signs are now in English, Spanish, and Arabic. This should be a very pleasing report for all of you lefties (as Nate likes to say).

  6. The guy that took over my crew when I retired took a picture of my relief operator pulling his pants back up. He seemed to have a problem keeping them up. That place doesn't even look like home to me anymore.

  7. I didn't kill any of them-- even when we were all angry and hurt. I remember sitting at the table with the then 15 year old and saying. "By morning one of us will be in jail and one of us will be dead. Right now I am not sure which one is which." Without missing a beat she said, "Well you will be in jail because I don't look good in strips." We both started laughing tension melted. She is so much like her dad dramatic. talented, and smart--- but didn't have the common sense of a snail. She is now the civilian HR director on an Army base. She plays any instrument she touches but migrates to the piano and bass. Signs like a dream and is a skilled actor. Her first four years of school she was a theatre major. The last two she got a degree in HR and then a Masters. 8 year plan is always a good college choice!

  8. Sorry for showing up to work late, had a pretty shitty day so far. Left the house and walked to the corner to catch the bus, only to find this. Did not want to hang around and get reported, so I decided to just walk to work and cut through the park. I tried to go around and the tree threw some nuts at me. I told it I knew @Nate and it told me to kiss it's knothole! So instead of nice walk through the park, I had to take the long way, down Second, through the construction zone, cut over on La Brea to Curry, which I hate because they have not fixed the sidewalk and I get all muddy, and then hang a right on Custer just to get here to this: You humans sure know how to make a robot feel special. morans.

  21. Yes on occasion--- I do--- stories about musicians may include the first Mr. Aire. Definitely have told some stories about getting the girls. I married a guy who was a single father of three young girls. Their mom had passed away. Then shortly there after he gets cancer and dies. I woke up one day with three children and no idea how I was even going to get out of bed in the morning. My mom kicked me in the butt and said those girls need you get yourself together. I did. We made it through and created a family--- also including their maternal grandparents which was a nice addition for them.

  23. Had a meeting with a potential client. Afterwards we walked across Church Street and I saw the WTC memorials for the first time. (The last time I did Bike New York, in 2003, I think, they were still just holes in the ground). It was still emotional to look into those pools and remember that day. We drove to Jersey City and parked, then took the PATH train across the river - it was pretty painless (though it wasn't cheap). The new PATH WTC station is amazing. I couldn't help but think the kids would enjoy going up there - I'm not a "city guy" by any means but it was pretty cool to be there. Had a pretty good Reuben from a place around the corner. I would have tried to set something up with RG - if the #1 and #2 guys from my firm weren't along with me. I took a few photos - I'll load them up later.

  24. Too many people try to kill me on the roads in the daytime for me to give them the dark as an advantage. Night riding is offroad only. I use the strobes during the day for survival reasons. I'm sick of having distracted drivers pull out in front of me like I wasn't even there. Fortunately due to extensive Naval training I have a proper vocabulary for each situation.

  32. Wow, my wife had that when we were first married and had an ambulance ride, emergency surgery, three pints of blood, and five days of intensive care. It sounds like they caught it quickly. Best wishes for your son and his wife. Give them lots of love and support, this hits harder than most people realize. After all they did just lose a baby.
