  2. Daughter of ChrisL has been the tree picker & decorator the past 15 years but she has her own house & own tree now so we let GF of son of ChrisL take over picking & decorating duty. She was over the moon happy when we let her pick the tree then told her OK you’re decorating. So decorating begins.

  4. Long story short. I didn't feel good, Wo46 took me to the hospital, they rushed me to surgery to remove my gallbladder, went into septic shock, stopped breathing, woke up in Intensive care. The other time I almost died was when I suggested Wo46 get a stationary bike.

  5. I've told this here before a few times also, but at least it is a cycling topic! When I was a teenager I replaced my bike's brake pads, then I rode down the hill by my house. Since I was a dumbass kid, I didn;t test them first, nor did I change my habit of screeching to a halt at stop signs, So when I jammed on the brakes, nothing happened and I went shoosting across the busy US highway and it took the whole long downhill block to manage to get stopped. I examined the brakes and no pads in the holders! An even dumber ass than me had designed them to retain in only one direction - there were no tabs on the direction of rotation so they went shooting out of the holders when I braked! So I like to remember that story as a reminder of how lucky I am to be here. :) That road is very heavily trafficked with many trucks. It was a miracle I lived through it!

  6. We've worked with Boston MedFlight and DPH for a couple of years. We are now the first to provide blood on emergency transport vehicles in Massachusetts. Blood is a highly regulated product. It is stored at MedFlight as an extension of my lab. Tons of ads, horrible browsing experience, but sadly, the only article I could find. https://www.bostonherald.com/2019/11/12/boston-medflight-will-now-carry-life-saving-blood-products/

  10. Appendix rupture. Full abscess. They had to do the big incision. I was in the hospital for a week while they waited for my bowels to start functioning correctly. I was called the "Walking Miracle".

  12. mr. and I went for a walk in the foothills to the east of our neighborhood, and while we were out in the open space the gate into the parking area was closed and locked. Neither of us saw the sign that the city closes the parking area at 7:00 pm. The thing is that we arrived after seven. So, now our car is locked away in the foothills open space parking area. We walked home from there. The lot opens at 7:00 am, I hope. Want to see my Relive satellite report? https://www.relive.cc/view/vmqX1w7YNLv

  13. I've told this story before here, but here it is again. I was driving on an all-night trip from Virginia to Alabama back in 1982. I have a bad habit of falling asleep at the wheel. Sometime during the wee hours of the night on I-85, I dozed off. Hitting rumble strips or maybe just debris on the edge of the road jarred me awake. I was staring dead ahead at a concrete rail or whatever it is called that ran along the edge of the bridge, approaching it at 65 mph. Within what seemed like just a few yards away, I was able to turn the wheel of my van and swerve to just barely miss plowing into the end of the rail. If I had slept for just a half second more, I would have surely slammed into the concrete rail and died that night.

  14. Nov 30 2012. Pulmonary embolism. If it was a millimeter or two bigger, it probably would have killed me. Dec 7, 2019. Driving home, a semi was coming in my direction. But he stayed in his lane, and I stayed in mine, thus avoiding a fatal collision.

  16. The most rewarding flying I have ever done was 4 years of "Lifeguard" flights. Back then, the paramedics brought supplies, including blood with them. In those days, we were sent to fetch patients who would then be stabilized onboard. We saw a lot, participated in a lot and lost a few. It was tough duty at times, especially when children were involved and you knew there was little to no chance. Regardless of where you participate, you are part of the life saving solution.

  17. He is 73, they offered him a $30,000 buyout to retire. I told him he wood bee crazy not to take it. He has a bike, I’m going to see if he wants to do some trail riding. We did some kayaking together and he likes kayaking.

  19. At PT today, I got to ride the stationary bike. After approximately ten minutes of partial pedal rotations I was able to complete one full pedal rotation. It has taken me so long to get this far. I am thrilled. Tomorrow I get to ride my bike, on the trainer, for ten minutes in the lowest gear. What amazing feat did you do for exercise today. I am happy as if I rode a century.

  21. Tonight I got ten minutes on the trainer. Took about 4 minutes to get a full rotation and then I did 10. Took a break then did 15. Took 10 minutes to do this. Now I have ice and elevation. This was the view on ride tonight.

  26. I had been a "car slob" for quite some time. My work car was essentially my office. While I would throw out food bags and drink cups, it would be littered with computer parts, spare napkins, receipts, etc. I drove the same car for several years and got to where I didn't notice the mess. WoW's daily driver was kind of the same way. At times our youngest daughter was borrowing her car because her own was having issues starting at night. We didn't want her stranded at work when she was often the one closing the store. There were some spills and stains on the carpet and upholstery that could never get clean. It got abused. A few months back, I got a newer company car. It was in excellent condition and it felt nice. Decided to keep it that way. That rubbed off on my personal cars. They all got cleaned up inside. WoW's daily driver was a frustration because even when cleaned, it didn't feel clean anymore. We got the new-to-us CX-5 and it is immaculate! WoW is now feeling the pride in keeping it nice!

  27. Foggy night. I was at a complete stop waiting for the car in front of me to turn left. The osmobuick behind me never looked up. I ended up on top of the car in front of me with a broken neck.

  28. An Indian boy was asking his father how he selected names for his children. The Chief said, "It was easy, I looked out of the TeePee at their birth and chose the first thing I saw. This is why your brother is named Running Deer and your sister is Singing Sparrow. Why do you ask, Two Dogs Fucking?"

  30. I work in the blood bank at Brigham and Women's, we are a teaching hospital for Harvard. It's about 100 feet from us. My work email is xxxxxx@bwh.harvard.edu. It makes me feel cool. I've been there, in various roles, for over 28 years now. Our blood bank is one of the biggest and busiest in the north east. Our hospital is smaller than Mass General (part of our parent company), but we transfuse significantly more than them.

  31. I like working around my house. I do some woodworking. I enjoy taking a small project that most people could do in a few hours and turning it into a two week drama. Once you are retired, OCD actually becomes a helpful trait. When I retired, I was into classic cars (Roadrunner) and such. After a few years, I started riding a bike a couple hours a day. I like walking, doing crosswords, sudoku, and talking to idiots like me on the internet. I spend some time each day on my health issues. I have plenty to do.

  34. Pennsylvania is one of the places we learned from. The type of product we give is more restrictive than other places. Massachusetts is pretty far behind as far as considering blood on helicopter of ambulance. Mayo was a much earlier adopter, but then were are not rural like them. A flight across the state here might be 60 minutes, maybe a 1/2 hour, it's hard to get a lot of blood in during that time. We're currently supplying one base, we will be adding three more. It makes you feel good knowing you contribute, even in a small way, to saving someone's life.

  35. My brother’s grandson married a girl named Isis. She sent my wife and I friend requests on Facebook. I accepted but my wife declined because she couldn’t chance being a friend of Isis with her high security job. She said I am probably already on the FBI’s watch list. I had talked with Isis about her name and said it’s not fair but basically the terrorists had ruined her name and she should pick another name. She resisted but just within the past month she changed her name to Morgan.

  36. He gets up, falls out of bed, drags a comb across his head. Finds his way downstairs and drinks a cup. Looking up, he notices he’s late. He finds his coat and grabs his hat, and makes the bus in seconds flat. Alright, maybe he skips the comb part.

  37. Went to OTF. Friend was sick, so not Starbucks. A few work text. Read work email Had a shower. Put sheets in wash. Sipping tea. Visit here. Read. Hang out with wife. Make dinner together. Eat dinner. Watch Bruins. I need a lot of downtime now to make it through the week without killing anyone. I'm not whining, maybe a little, but I cannot be down at work ever. I have to maintain a positive, happy attitude all of the time. The correct answer is almost always yes, which means more work. People are a drain, corrective actions plans are tiring. Firing people, while needed, can be a drag. I am so mentally exhausted, I can barely make it to Friday. I do like my job though, we help people live.

  42. Wife saw that and wasn't impressed, then added... "If the made one that smelled like roasting coffee..." That is one thing about growing up in Jacksonville. Depending on which way the wind was blowing, we either got the pungent odor of the papermill...or the sweet aroma of the Maxwell House coffee plant.
