  1. So I was doing my usual crossword the other day and the clue for 25 across was, "college degree, 3 wds". The answer was, "Bachelor of Arts". But when I wrote it out on the puzzle page, it looked like this, "BACHELOROFARTS". Of course, the first thing my 15 year-old brain saw was, "Bachelor O' Farts".

  2. Mrs got a new pup last weekend. He's a Toy Poodle, cute as heck, but a little nipping terror. One minute he and Maggie are at fist-to-cuffs, the next minute, Maggie cries when she thinks he's in distress, will try to break him out of his kennel, or chew up his hard to chew apple slices and set them in front of him to eat. He is yet to be named, we wanted to let his personality decide. We want to name him Teddy (bear) but our grand son's name is Theodore. The breeder called him Sunny, we've been calling him Buddy, but neither seem to fit. Something like Scamp or Rascal maybe? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

  4. Ok.. as someone asked for it..so here goes.. Been working on getting the '29 Chevy to kick over and run.. guessing there is an issue with the plugs, so I am heading out in a bit to get a spark plug blasting kit so I can revamp them and not have to buy new ones. Also I don't think the engine fired over in the last 20+ years from the previous owner.. who knows what all he tinkered with that could have caused issues.. I know for a fact he screwed up the vacuum tank that I already fixed. Once I can get it running I will feel better about taking my time and getting all the paneling removed to access the wood and start rebuilding the frame to get the few dry rotted parts out. As my garage looks from the street.. kind of funny how people stop to look when the door is open. I'm guessing it's because how much crap I have shoved in there and not the cars. For the Valiant.. We had it out again last night to a small cruise-in in downtown Grapevine. There were about 20 other cars there. Wish one of these days that I'll remember to get pictures, but it's hard to do when we get surrounded as we back in by people wanting to see the car and ask questions. Last night was one of them times.. It was awesome... as soon as I backed into the space, we were met by a kid (about 15) with autism. MAN.... did that kid have a lot of questions and also knew a lot about the car already... I LOVE taking to younger kids that are excited about vehicles. I really wish I would have gotten his name. He was so full of questions and was a really great kid.. his parents did a fine job raising him so far and he defiantly has a future in older cars if he ever gets deeper into them. Here is the Valiant from the show last Sunday, and the trophy it got. As I was getting all packed up from the show (throwing my chair and trophy in the trunk), An older gentleman approached me and told me how I should have taken overall for the show. This was his favorite car by far and said it was a shame I only got second for my division. I told him there will be many more shows I'll be going to and maybe one day I'll walk out with the bigger trophy. Personally it is not the trophies or awards I like getting, it's getting to talk to all the other vehicle nuts out there. They are good people and fun to talk shop with. I'll be taking the Valiant out to another show just around the corner next weekend. Figured every couple weeks is good enough for me, you can really only see the same cars a few times before getting burnt out. I still have to sign up still for the Nov 14 paint and pistons show before all the spaces are filled up. That one is going to be a long day.. cars show up before 8am, and then pack up and leave at 6pm.

  10. Played my first game of hockey last night, first time on the ice since February 2020, right before Covid shut everything down. In spite of being active, it is obvious that I use muscle groups playing hockey that I don't use doing anything else. Walking down the hall is like "ow..., ow..., ow.."

  14. F-1 and F-2 AKA modern sidecars are all left hand chair on vintage it's personal preference. Before I built my sidecar I looked at every track and counted every left and right hand turns and a majority of the race tracks run clockwise with just a few that run counterclockwise. Most of the sidecars that we race against came from the United Kingdom and majority of them are right hand chair. We are the only team racing in the AHRMA series that built our own sidecar from scratch. When you think about how crazy I was to do this I never raced or driven or even monkey on a sidecar but I built one from scratch and went racing. When I decided to do this I went on line and asked what rake and trail are people running, wheelbase, 3rd wheel offset and what handling issues they have. I had six sidecar racers responded and I took this information and started doing the math and came up with the geometry that we are running.

  15. I finally worked up the energy to return the carburetor I bought for the generator that didn't fit. One day left on the 30 day return window. As God as my witness, I thought it was longer with Amazon. So when you take it back to Kohls they give you a $5 coupon with a week or two life, so of course that forced me to check oot the clearance rack (which those sneaky bastards moved BTW), so got a nice shirt for $4.50. Almost got a free one but an XL slim fit did not balance oot quite enough. Now I need to try another carburetor for the generator. I was joking with my brother who is sirius aboot buying an electric riding mower that an electric generator would be nice so you don;t have to worry about the carburetor plugging up!

  16. Ok..more than just a breakfast thread So I blended 2 recipes and made a batch of pumpkin pancajes..yummy..but a few tweaks would improve them. Also..I think I need to get a grill thingy that has a flat surface and a rippled one..my skillet is a tad small. Tea is cooling to tha absolute perfect temp..from the Rare Tea Company. Not sure what shenanigans the day will bring.

  22. I spoke with my cousin Phyllis last night. She's the daughter of my Aunt Sally who died of COVID in April 2020 a few months short of her 100th birthday. She and her husband appear well on the road to recovery from COVID. She and her husband foolishly refused to get COVID vaccinations - even after her mother then another cousin of ours died of COVID (Phyllis even visited her grave in Massachusetts) and my sister almost died of it. More foolishly, they went on a recent Florida getaway and returned to NJ having caught COVID. Phyllis was never in desperate shape but bad enough to go to a hospital, though she wasn't admitted overnight (I think she refused it). She was treated with monoclonal antibodies and as an outpatient had a series of remdesivir shots. She is recovering well now. Husband Ken, who had the symptoms first, tried a bunch of home remedies, then began to have a fever and breathing problems and has been in the hospital since last Saturday. They had to increase the oxygen he's been getting from a "2" rate to a "4" Phyl said, "Things were getting scary for a while." Then he improved, they dropped the rate to "2" and there's a chance he'll be sent home today with home-use oxygen. Phyllis has a pulse oximeter at home. I hope they'll get the shots after they recover, but my guess is they'll assume they're reduced the chances of getting it again enough that their imaginative, unstudied beliefs of risks of the vaccine causing problems outweighs the risk of getting it again.

  28. Today I am going with hot sauce and leftover pickled banana peppers. Yesterday I went with red chili peppers. Hmm, I do have scallions so them too today. Thinly sliced jalapenos are my normal go to for this porpoise, but I bought the Yowsers chili peppers instead this time. They are good, but just don;t have that crispiness that jalapenos are so good at. This is one more reason I love the cheap froot and veggie place. They often have new to me items. These say sweet but they do have some heat.
