goldendesign Posted June 10, 2021 Share #1 Posted June 10, 2021 Since I don't go to the hand doctor until next week and no one at the office ever calls back I have a question: How can you tell if your nail is gonna fall off. Following that, since the dead area is kinda a dry (on the outside) area protecting the other bits growing back... What happens to the nail as it gets pushed out? Will it lift the other stuff off and then I'll have a goey mess? Shower thoughts today while cleaning the wound. And because some will say Spoiler
Randomguy Posted June 10, 2021 Share #2 Posted June 10, 2021 That is a lot less gross than last time! Nobody is gonna notice anything when it is all done healing.
2Far ★ Posted June 10, 2021 Share #3 Posted June 10, 2021 That's actually looking pretty good. Always hard to say with nails. If the bed got damaged, the new nail will slowly push the old one out. You'll have to trim it short to keep it from snagging or wear a finger tip band aid.
Longjohn ★ Posted June 10, 2021 Share #4 Posted June 10, 2021 I’m not a doctor but I’ll make a guess anyway. You won’t lose the nail, as it grows out it will slide right over the black part. Not sure when that black part will shed, probably when it’s ready to and it’s healed up underneath.
MoseySusan Posted June 10, 2021 Share #5 Posted June 10, 2021 It looks good. Is it itchy?
donkpow Posted June 10, 2021 Share #6 Posted June 10, 2021 It looks to me like a fairly healthy nail bed. The dried pus/scab material will fall away or you can wash it off. My mother would have used hydrogen peroxide on that. The black necrotic tissue likely has new born tissue beneath. I wouldn't rush the process involved with that.

Pain only when I'm dumb and hit it on something or I try to use it where it has to bend more than it wants to. @road0315 it is both itchy as hell and weirdly numb, the leg or foots fallen asleep numb with pins and needles. 40 minutes ago, Longjohn said: Not sure when that black part will shed, probably when it’s ready to and it’s healed up underneath. The Dr did mention that'll happen in the next 4-6 months. Yay.

Airehead Posted June 11, 2021 Share #14 Posted June 11, 2021 When I have lost toenails due to running, they took their own sweet time before falling off. Be patient.
