Kirby Posted March 1, 2020 Share #1 Posted March 1, 2020 Personally I think the meteorolgists are rushing things here, but I tend to agree that autumn should be Sept/Oct/Nov and winter should be Dec/Jan/Feb so I guess that leaves spring starting on March 1. I hope you all enjoyed it. https://www.ncei.noaa.gov/news/meteorological-versus-astronomical-seasons 1

Meteorological seasons are a firm time which may be easier for record keeping. But I'm not sure of the actual reason.
BuffJim Posted March 2, 2020 Share #5 Posted March 2, 2020 Ours came in like a lamb, we'll see if it takes the form of a lion during the next few weeks.

Razors Edge ★ Posted March 2, 2020 Share #8 Posted March 2, 2020 I like the 3 months = one season simplicity. I also like the scientific rationale of the normal way. Gotta think the most simple route, though, is usually preferable.

Better yet, there are two guys pushing for a new type of calendar that would have 364 days per year - and even 52 weeks - then a leap week every 3-4 years. That way, birthdays, holidays, etc. would come on the same day of the week every year, with the exception of holidays dependent on lunar cycles, etc.

Birthdays are a great excuse for a long weekend (Mon or Fri off), and no one really likes taking just Wednesday off.
