  2. This was Sunday's charity drag race. The car I was using is right between the base of the tree and the red and white 55 chevy. Pay no attention to the old man in the John Deere hat.

  3. Good for her. My MIL and a good friend are both nurses. You could not pay me enough to do their job...., and I swim around in black water looking for dead bodies for a living.

  7. We’re not Mexican but we will jump on anyone else’s holiday as an excuse to get drunk and eat good food. Any plans for Cinco de Mayo? I will pick up some Dos Equis, cilantro, and avocado for tomorrow. And yes, I know that some people don’t like cilantro, we hear it every time you see the word. I’m making corn tortillas and will have beef and chicken enchiladas.

  9. Interesting comparison, I prefer to calculate the cost over the years of ownership, and normally this doesn't look too bad, particularly considering the cost of a new truck at today's prices.

  10. A lot of old time campers use a bucket to catch the gray water and then they carry it somewhere to dump it. Eventually the bottom of the bucket gets a rust hole and then they don’t ever have to empty it again. It’s like a miracle.

  11. Kevin O’Connor and Mike Murphy go into a Dublin pub one afternoon and head to the bar. The bartender who was wiping down tables asked, “can I help you gents?” “We’d like a couple pints of Guinness if you don’t mind.” “I don’t mind at all but we don’t open for another hour.” “Do you mind if we wait? It’s only an hour.” “Not at all, can I get you a pint while you wait?”

  13. ...especially as a "go to" meal? Honestly, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, enchiladas, but also just the various seasoning and peppers and other influences really make them pretty darn high in my book.

  14. DH - you're getting a big assist in our race by my county's building permits department. My contractor could easily have my house completed in May, but there are some things that are being delayed because my county's inspectors are taking their time checking things out and issuing permits, so it looks like I won't move in until June. The permit only arrived yesterday for the addition of a roof over my outside basement steps. The case manager and contractor are reaching out to State Farm to get me another month in my apartment (through June 30) - my insurance policy says they'll do it up until 2 years total and they've been great so far, so I expect that to be the case. On the other hand, that gives more time to go through my choice of appliances for which eyestrain and sinus-allergy headaches have been delaying the online research. It's nice that the house is, at least, starting to look like an occupied house again from the outside. I can't wait until I have electricity, bathroom facilities, etc. to work with to get rid of a year's worth of plant growth:

  21. I had bad bursitis of my messed up knee two weeks ago. It was feeling better the next week,so I went for a walk it started hurting, so I slapped the blue icepack on it again. Problem is, I pressed my luck and lost. I put the ice pack on my skin. I figured I'd take it off once I couldn't take the cold any longer. Since it's my surgery knee, the skin doesn't have full feeling. Gave myself freezer burn Later that day it was swollen but looking better It's healing slowly. I've been putting different lotions on it in hopes of giving it a variety of healing agents. ?? Any ideas of good lotions or something? Ya, I know.... don't do dumb stuff

  23. I find the "getting the rug burn" is often a VERY fun adventure. It is the after the activity that I realize rug burn is not so fun But, like the foolish man I am, I still return to the same sort of shenanigans that got me rug burned in the first place.

  28. I think I did put some salt free seasoning on it. I was so hungry when I got home from my massage I wolfed it’s down without tasting it. I’m eating pasta now. My cupboards were stocked full of pasta because it was easy for my wife to eat. Spaghetti sauce has too much sodium so I bought some tomato purée and made my own. Next time I’ll plan ahead and add hot peppers, garlic, and onion to the sauce.

  31. Congrats to her - educated and so good looking, too! I did a quick look-up of McNeese's program and to become a Registered Nurse (RN) there requires a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) where some places award an RN without the degree. THAT is great and can be very important for her future! I had a girlfriend named Lola who was a nurse, a University of Maryland School of Nursing bachelor's degree graduate, when my younger sister, Donna, was still in high school and wanted to become a nurse. Donna wanted to do the three year program at Union Memorial Hospital because it was famous for treating the Baltimore Colts and Orioles - but the program ended with an RN but no BSN. Lola told Donna, "Do NOT go to Union Memorial. If you don't get that bachelor's degree you're going to find yourself passed up for promotions throughout your career." So Donna followed Lola's example and went to and graduated from U of MD School of Nursing, got a nursing position at the USA's #1 rated Johns Hopkins Hospital, was eventually promoted to Coordinator of Bone Marrow Transplants, then was selected as senior assistant to Dr. Rob Brodsky when he was promoted to head of cancer (and later COVID) research. Donna went nights to get her Master's from John Hopkins U to solidify that position, and retired a couple decades a later from that position - all those promotions and a nice six-figure salary and nice pension made possible by starting out with that BSN degree!

  33. Got my first flat tire in 5 years. Only .44 miles from home. 4am, on a county road with no shoulder and dewy damp scrub brush the only place to swap the tube. I walked my ass home. I'll ride tomorrow.

  41. Aero always matters in RC because the cars are so light in relation to the potential speed. In drag racing it's especially important because the speeds are high and the cars are on the edge of traction. Two things are especially important to us, directional stability and keeping air out from under the body. The street eliminator/outlaw class is the faster and they run large rear wings with large vertical fins for stability. They also tend to remove most of the body below the wing to let any trapped air out. The superstocks cannot remove any of the stock appearing body and are limited as to the wing, but they are slower, in the 40mph range vs 60 to 70. I witnessed one "blowover" Sunday where the nose of the car rotated up near the finish line and the car took off like an airplane, getting about 4 feet off the ground while doing a complete backflip. We run the nose of the car as close to the ground as possible to keep air out. Aero is why in the lineup you see so many of the Corvette pro mod bodies. There is no back at all on that one under the wing and they form an efficient "wedge" shape to manage the air.
