shootingstar Posted November 8, 2020 Share #3 Posted November 8, 2020 I found a recipe for homemade pretzels. When I join dearie in a few weeks, I hope to make them. There's no point me making now....no one else to give pretzels to.

Now, he's on a hunt for a more authentic German recipe. The traditional one uses lye in the water to finish it off. I told him, I didn't want that... My recipe uses baking soda in boiling water.

You could buy one without getting out of the truck. Those were soooo good.
Longjohn ★ Posted November 9, 2020 Share #7 Posted November 9, 2020 I used to haul beverages out of filthydelphia but I don’t remember those. I was probably in too big of a hurry to get out of there.

MoseySusan Posted November 9, 2020 Share #11 Posted November 9, 2020 @shootingstar my pretzel recipe uses baking soda, too. One word of support: the steam from the boiling pot deposits a film of soda all over the stovetop and surrounding countertop. If it were lye, the results could be somewhat caustic. 1
Randomguy Posted November 9, 2020 Share #12 Posted November 9, 2020 I got a delivery from hole foods today, they are one of the cheaper options in NYC now. That was a bizarre statement to type, btw. Amazon ownership has improved them considerably.

Then minimally, we should use a very high soup stockpot..?
