Longjohn ★ Posted December 20, 2023 Share #1 Posted December 20, 2023 Anyone here use them? Judie wants to get some for Jax. She says his feet get cold and he wants to come in too often but he loves the snow so he wants to go back out in five minutes. Anytime we put boots on an animal it was funny to watch them walk but they didn’t like them.
Ralphie ★ Posted December 20, 2023 Share #2 Posted December 20, 2023 I’ve never seen boots be accepted by any animule. Airhead or digital_photog should have an answer.

Adorably cute to see them "robot" walk and then, one by one, work them off their feet. My sister had success with her border collie, but he was out doing long runs with her and definitely needed the protection.
shotgun Posted December 20, 2023 Share #4 Posted December 20, 2023 Our vet had us convinced that our Scottish Terrier (Dexter) had a condition that made his nails brittle. This was after he broke one in a pavement crack while we were walking him. So, we got boots for him to protect his nails. He was not a fan of them! ...and he never broke another nail.
Randomguy Posted December 20, 2023 Share #5 Posted December 20, 2023 In my experience, they twist on the dog's feet, and the dogs just don't take to them. All of the people I have talked to about them (maybe 4?) will put them on a few times and then give up. The gf tried this with the family dog a couple of winters back, despite the repeated warnings and foretellings of doom. At any rate, dog paws seem to handle cold pretty well. It is only when ice balls form in their pads that there is ever trouble.

Longjohn ★ Posted December 20, 2023 Author Share #8 Posted December 20, 2023 Jax has been outside at least ten times today. He really likes the snow until his feet get cold.

He is young. I would skip the boots, winter is half over already. He won't care when he is older. 1
Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted December 20, 2023 Share #10 Posted December 20, 2023 Skip the boots. They know to come in when they get cold. We won’t get boots for Manche.

This was how it worked for our dogs too. I just found this. I won't buy them. But I sure looks like it would be difficult to work the boots off their feet. link
Airehead Posted December 21, 2023 Share #12 Posted December 21, 2023 Mushers Friend. Skip the boots. They are nothing but a hassle. Is the hair between his pads clipped? That can hold ice balls that are both cold and uncomfortable.
ChrisL Posted December 21, 2023 Share #13 Posted December 21, 2023 What about the foot protectors working dogs wear?
smudge ★ Posted December 21, 2023 Share #14 Posted December 21, 2023 I got boots for our dog back in the day. After a while he was ok with them. Yes, he'd lose one once in a while so we would backtrack to find it. It was good to know he wasn't developing snowballs on the underside of his feet. Jax will be in your yard. If he loses a shoe, you'll be able to find it.

With snow covering Jax's landmines scattered about the yard, no way you should be tromping around looking for a lost bootie!
