There is a little bar out on the camp road. I finally stopped in after driving past for forty years. Not the warmest welcome. Another guy came in and they are chattin' it up. Bartender/owner finally came over and shared a dog story with me.

Back home in PA there was a bar down the road called the Wayside Inn.  I think it was the only bar for miles around that I never entered.  I went past it daily for years growing up but never set foot in the place.

Sorry they weren’t friendlier. I stopped in at the dive bar after 11 years in my neighborhood and got a pretty warm welcome. Probably won’t become a regular.

Neutral welcome is best, if a stranger treats you like his long lost buddy look out, if they shoot at you... leave, fast...

I'm glad you finally stopped in even if you won't become a regular.  There are so many places I see, but never stop in because I don't have the time  It's nice to satisfy that curiosity.

I think that was it. But geez, I went in super friendly...and that's not the smudge way! I might stop in again. He seemed to warm up a bit towards me after he talked to one of his regulars. I probably caught him by surprise.

Now that they are warmed up to you, you will probably get a better welcome next time.  Probably good that you ordered a beer rather than a white wine spritzer.

Do they have a grill as well? Maybe a food stop . Some little bars have great food...however, some have microwaved poo

Jersey has its own back country, the Pine Barrens.  There is a Piccadilly Pic-A-Lilli Inn that draws people from all around for the wingz.

I don't think young people wander into bars. My generation may be the last   I'm 49, and when I was in my early 20's I'd stop into a local bar, which eventually became my "cheers" after work for a beer & a burger. Lots of good times there all friendly locals.  I enjoy sitting at the bar casually mingling w/ local folks.

I was chatting w/ a guy at work who is 31, and he's never been to a bar solo. He said his generation typically goes as a group.

I’ve never been a bar person. Ahspose some of the reason is everything is driving distance for me, so it makes no sense.  But the bigger reason is I am not good at striking up conversations with other people.

I have had fun times at bars by myself, just posting on the forum the whole time.  Sometimes it is nice just to observe people out in the wild and have a beer whilst foruming.
