Notice how suddenly quiet and docile he became when you said you were going to call the police anyway, even after you got the card back. Why? It makes me think he really didn't want the police show up at his shop. And why would that be? I'd think about putting a fraud alert on the card. The arrogance and confrontation may have been an act to distract you, to focus you on his obnoxious behavior, and to take your attention away from the fact the he was skimming the card information. Yup, I'm pretty cynical at times, but I've learned that when people behave oddly like this they have a reason - a good reason for them and usually not good for me - especially when money is involved. I find it's just a matter of asking 'Why?' a couple times to follow a logical line that would explain the odd behavior. My guess it isn't the first time he's 'run' somebody's card, it was 'denied' and he kept the card because he bullied the cardholder into leaving it. Given that, the last thing he wants is the police showing up because he wouldn't give your card back.4 points

I've always wanted to leave this: "I'm out of the office, time traveling. If I didn't call you back last week, I'll call you back last month when the next wormhole converges. Thanks and I hope you'll have a good day yesterday."3 points

I like the old-fashioned circus with the freak show, the wild animals, the midway hustlers with their rigged games, and the clowns. So I try to visit the Forum at least once each day.3 points

The horiztiontal mirror came off. Been semaphoring for minutes and then they want to do a hard tack to factory heading. Last time they did this...they promised it would all come aback...heck no...ended up aground on some uncharted desert isle. Luckily we were not the only people here. Some fat guy and his guy skinny lover, a geek, a pair of hot chicks and a weird couple were already here and have made all kinds of cool shit from bamboo and coconuts.3 points

Can we all agree that Asia was the worst supergroup of all time. CSNY was one of the best. Johnny Cash was in a good one, The Highwaymen, with Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, and Waylon Jennings.3 points

The usual work commute of 2.5, and then I did climbing repeats on Freya for a little over 5 miles and some change. I got in 1800 ft in about 8 miles so far today. I will gently glide down the 2.5 miles home. In addition, I worked out this morning and did weighted steps ups, front squats, burpees, these hanging bar things where you bring your feet up, rower and assault bike thing. I will sleep well tonight.2 points

I think the forum needs a "ban this poster" button right under the "Like this" button. After a poster hits a certain "ban" count, they get a ban.2 points

I remember getting one like that once but much more detailed. It went on about how he didn't care what you wanted or needed and how your concerns were not his concerns anymore and he only cared about his concerns. If you really needed him you were out of luck. If you wanted help from someone that should care then call........ It was done pretty well and not offensive.2 points

We used to paint kill marks on the robots at P&W aircraft. It really wasn't their fault that soft humans would occasionally violate their clearly marked personal space but it was fun to make sure that people knew who won those encounters. And yes, you're right, most robot stupidity is on their programmers.2 points

That they found these blockages before you had a heart attack was really lucky. I've a couple of stents but they came after two heart attacks which meant losing a third of my heart muscle. The procedure is a painless one and the medics now have it off pat so it should be a non-event really and you will be out and well in no time. That said, the real bugger is that they will put you on Statins and various other drugs to prevent a re-occurrence and that can be a game-changer. Having been on Statins for years I suffered many side-effects during that time and only now do I feel human again after stopping them four weeks ago. Good luck but it should be fine.2 points

Well it is back working again! It has a surge suppressor that is shared with a microwave, and unplugging and replugging that "fixed" it. Mrs MK wants to call of the repair guy, and I guess there is a good chance he will try to blame the surge suppressor, but the microwave clock never stopped nor did the fridge light and indicators.2 points

Hmm - I unplugged it to clean underneath, plugged it back in, and guess what? Started running. I never thought to reboot the sumb!tch. Of course they still need to figure out why it stopped. It had indicator lights and the inside lights the whole time.2 points

Dear Dong: As an unapologetic Capitalist Goat, I recommend dealing with REI. They are a good company and make good profits. You Kim Dong can get everything you need there. Well, almost everything. For ammo to reload your anti-aircraft launchers, you'll need to hit Wal-Mart.2 points

The team I am on at work meet today with our new bosses boss. We were supposed to go over what we did and how we do it which was supposed to include all the work I've done automating things. Instead my boss did what she usually does and domineered the discussion and basically just went through the process manually and not allowing me to show how we actually do things now. This was the first time in 13 fucking years that any upper management has wanted to see my work as I was supposed to be demonstrating the automation and showing off capability. So after the meeting, I emailed our new bosses boss and briefly explained how we actually do things and how much more we can handle now because of it while increasing accuracy at the same time. Then I told her that I am not a self promoter and have never done it, but after 13 years of frustration of continuing coming up with ways to automate things saving the company man years with out any recognition outside of the couple percent annual increases that I had nothing to lose. Then stated with everything I've done and with the current state of the automation, the limiting factor is actually the network as I can push it hard enough to bring things to fault and that it would take around five people to replace me. I'm pretty fed up and frustrated at this point. Don't know as it will do any good, but what the fuck, it's obvious my boss isn't going to do anything for me other than block me when I've tried to switch departments because I'm indispensable, not that she will push for a promotion and actual pay raise.1 point

It was last nights game, it came up on my Google news page this morning. Krug is pretty good at defense, he's small and pretty fast so he's not too bad at offense too. I just thought that was an impressive goal.1 point

^^^^^ This comes as no surprise as my experience is that even in France they treat their employees with disdain. French managers have a lot to learn......but I'm not sure they will learn what they need from American managers.1 point

Sounds like inner city station. It's the only time I have found the pay at pump disabled. It's creepy enough for this country boy to have to get out of the car to pump gas where the windows and doors all have bars on them, then to have to go inside and prepay really sucks. So far I have survived but I can't imagine what a female would feel like in that situation.1 point

Well, no. A CT is not part of a routine checkup. I'm sure Caretaker had symptoms that warranted the exams. Sounds like it's a good thing he had the exams!1 point

In IT "they" expect 100% uptime and scream like banshees if any system goes down. When the mill went to profit sharing, IT was left out of the picture, as we did not directly affect the production, quality, and delivery of product; of course unless said system(s) failed, which controlled production, quality, and delivery, and everything stopped. I'm glad I'm retired.1 point

Underappreciated is putting it lightly. My give a damn is completely busted at this point. I've always been the lowest paid among my peers while continually doing the most work and coming up with ways to greatly improve the processes in both efficiency and accuracy.1 point
