  1. April 1st 1977 is the day I woke up and decided I would kick my 2 pack a day cigarette habit. And I did, cold turkey, never touched another. I think I might just about have it licked.

  3. This fool did his longest ride of the year, 15.8. It felt MUCH longer because of the wind, though. I am branching out from loop rides - did the big dipper today. I want to try to build some miles so I can do some nice rail trail rides this year. I have been perusing books of them that my fambly has given me over the years. Sadly, Jersey is very short on them.

  4. From Santa Susanna just NE of Barcelona. I booked this weeks package holiday months ago, seven days half board (breakfast & dinner) in a four star hotel, three coach tours of Barcelona, Girona and Montserrat plus one return coach trip to Barcelona for independent sightseeing. Flights and everything for about 100 euros/night. It's the very beginning of the season so everywhere locally is half dead and temp only in high teens but that suits me fine. Got a small discount because it was supposed to be a single room but was given a twin. Only downside is the mobility aids in the bathroom remind me of a nursing home. Lots of Irish of a similar age on the same package. Looking forward to an interesting week. Will post photos on my return.

  6. I did the same thirty some years ago. I was a 3 pack a day fiend, I don't think I would be here today had I not quit.

  10. Sounds a bit like when my wife bought the place we own south of town. We had looked at the property together, and I was at the auction when she bought it. However, I did not know she was bidding until the next to the last bid. Yes, I was napping. Good luck on your search for info. and property.

  21. Did 45 rather strenuous minutes on the trainer, then yanked on the Hoka's and ran about 3/4 mile. I ran rather tentatively, being worried about sprains & strains, (much worse than breaks) but my heart rate hit 162 while running, 150 while on the trainer, even though I felt like I was pushing fairly hard on the trainer. Speaking of heart rate, it's been about a month of limited beer and more regular exercise, my heart reacts much quicker, speeds up and slows down as my effort changes before it lagged a good bit behind the effort. On the weight lose front I haven't lost near the weight I thought I would. Suspect that I've replaced fat with muscle, because even though the scale isn't moving much my clothes are fitting better. But enough about me. How are you doing ?

  24. I have deck plants growing in the spa room for the winter. I'll soon be bringing them out to their summer home. I have jalapeños in three hanging planters that have been producing peppers all winter and they are still blooming. The garden will be later.

  27. 1992 for me after smoking for 30 years. It was tough not to in the service when cigarettes were $0.25 a pack or $0.10 outside the national borders. I quit when a pack was $1.25 and every day I would put that money in a fund for my toys. If they are more than $10 a pack these days that's $3600 a year. I have relatives who complain about being poor who still smoke a pack a day.

  37. Well, I just bought the trailer hitch and installation (1 week from monday) for my new car. Once that's on we have to get womaxx back on the bike to see if she can handle it. There are still some significant balance issues post chemo so I'm a bit nervous. If I can get her safely back on the bike it opens up a number of day trips for us like Block Island or Cape Cod that she really enjoys. Our neighborhood is a bad ride for her as it's hill central. For example my house is 1/4 mile from an intersection and 250 feet up. Her choice of bike is a single speed beach cruiser and I have been unable to get her to change to something else.
