Popular Post Randomguy Posted December 13, 2018 Popular Post Share #33 Posted December 13, 2018 1 hour ago, Road Runner said: We need an RO update. Ok, she had her tonsils and adenoids out yesterday. I really only let a few people know (parents, relatives primarily) because I have a lot going on right now and didn't want to get into long and involved explanations, and I didn't want to be a drama queen so much. She was fine before the operation, but apprehensive. The surgery went well according to the doctor, and they brought RO into the recovery room. She promptly woke up and freaked out with chimpanzee strength despite the anesthesia, desperately trying to get off the bed and "go home". Her mother had gone out to get prescriptions filled, so it was just me wrestling with her to stay in the bed. It was worrying and traumatic, she was frantic and sweating like crazy, and her heart rate was through the roof. I was on the bed with her and was holding her onto the bed bear-hug style. The nurses that were there said that this was "not uncommon", but it seemed like it to me. In about 15 minutes she started getting calmer. Her mother came back and we traded positions, so RO amped it up again for a bit, but then continued to calm. She was in a lot of pain and kept demanding to go home, can't blame her for that. She went after popsicles right away, which was good. We stayed in the recovery room for about 3 hours, the last hour and a half unnecessarily, and there was much folly in getting her home from a Manhattan hospital to Brooklyn at rush hour. RO complained of being in pain, but that is completely expected by anyone with a lick of common sense. She is "in pain and fussy" currently, but again, you gotta expect that.
Longjohn ★ Posted December 13, 2018 Share #34 Posted December 13, 2018 That used to be a very common operation for kids, not so much anymore. I was about her age when I had mine out, it really improved my hearing.

We did not, there was much added stress and folly from her. It is unfortunately normal for her to create massive tension when soothing calmness and reasoned thinking is called for. You can buy me a beer and I will tell you about the folly, but it would be a loooooooong day for you. Ask Wilbur, he has an inkling.

No, she looks drugged up to me, they prescribed oxycodone for her. I would prefer she not take that, but that is the one with "no side effects", so the doctor said. Tylenol is the only other that she can take, but my experience with Tylenol is that it is utterly useless in all situations.
