Popular Post Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted February 13, 2020 Popular Post Share #1 Posted February 13, 2020 Today at work. I am large and in charge; I am the organizer for my employer. We had 20 donors sign up in advance. My goal was 28 so I sent an email this morning to all employees saying that we are ready for walk ins too. I just came back from the site and the place is buzzing with donors. Yay! 7

I had the same issue when my pulse was 62. “Are you a runner?” Was the question. “No! Running sucks, I’m a cyclist. 62 is normal”. She said ok and checked a box on the form and took my blood anyway.

I'm sure you and 2Far could do something just prior to the pulse check that would temporarily bump you up to 70+ though???? Avoid the awkward discussion? Would just moving your legs in a nervous sort of way for a minute or two get the rate up? I might have to try that with my HR strap on and see. Yeah, mine was 40. Happened a coupla donations ago. "Are you a runner/cyclist?" Yes. "Do you take a beta blocker?" Yes. "OK, good to go."

Popular Post Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted February 13, 2020 Author Popular Post Share #14 Posted February 13, 2020 Final total: 34 units collected, six of those are double red donations. 28 people and at least two were deferred. So it was a great success. 1

Popular Post Longjohn ★ Posted February 13, 2020 Popular Post Share #16 Posted February 13, 2020 Giving blood during work hours? It doesn’t get much better than that. I only got to do that one time, the supervisor’s daughter was dying and needed my blood type. She died anyway but I don’t think it was because of me. 2 hours ago, jsharr said: Would anyone really want my blood if they knew where it came from? I have no idea who’s blood I got last year but I was sure glad to get it. When I was first married my wife had an ectopic pregnancy rupture and she almost bled to death. They gave her many units of blood and she was in intensive care for a week. When they moved her to a semi-private room her roommate (an eighty something year old lady) wanted to know who the blood donors were. We said we had no idea. She said she wouldn’t take a transfusion unless she knew to donor. What if it was a black person’s blood? Then you get pregnant and had a little black baby? I told her I like little black babies so no problem. After we adopted our first black son I wished we could have contacted her and told her she was right.

Yes, it's FDA regulated. There is a draft guidance that may loosen the rules though.

Yes to what the square head leader said. I know two people at work who cannot donate for this reason
