  2. Some of you know that G raced cross with a team out of Louisville last year. We've decided to stick with this team year round and do some road and MTB this spring/summer. So we pulled the camper down to Lexington this weekend. Emmy made smores. It rained on Sunday. G raced in his crit anyway. This is him finishing. G after the race. There were 4 kids that showed up for juniors. The second place overall kid was in the 13/14 juniors. The other 3 were 11/12. The first place overall is just stupid strong. G was about a min off his pace and ended up 3rd overall and 2nd in his AG, but it was no shame finishing second to this kid that will be Peter Segan one day. G waxed the 3rd place finisher by minutes, a lot of them.

  3. I've been moonlighting as a contractor while still employed with my current company as this other company wants me to start right away and is begging me for my assistance. I've been there several times in the past few weeks working with the staff and meeting several of the executives and they seem like a good group of folks. They all really want me to start with them and are hoping I come on board as an employee and not a contractor. The President & CEO is about 35 YO, inherited the firm from her dad and seems like a decent person. She's real down to earth and seems to listen and takes an active role in the firm. They are branching out though and she knows nothing of my industry and has said many times she'll let me run it and is bringing on the infrastructure to support the operations. The only thing that bums me out is I was hoping to leave the industry if I could. I'm still in the running for a position outside my industry but no formal offer has been made and the pay is less than what I'm currently earning. My old boss who referred me to them floated a number about 10K more than I'm making now to the President/CEO and she didn't blink.... I think I could come out pretty well financially if I joined them as they are talking about throwing in a car which is huge in my industry due to the travel. They are also moving their office April 1st from Downtown Los Angeles to Carson which is about 25 miles up the freeway from me. A very reasonable commute and I exit the freeway before the traffic really starts to back up heading towards LAX. I think I'm going to call her this week and open dialogue on coming on board and work out a package for a start on the 10th of April as an employee.

  4. So Tommy and I shoved into The Rock, hot and thirsty, the first beer just sizzled on our tongues. Tommy loudly announced that one case wasn't going to be enough. A guy at the bar challenged Tommy to drink a case in 20 minutes, bet 50 dollars Tommy couldn't do it. Tommy disappeared for about 20 minutes. The guy started making noise about scaring my friend off. Tommy reappeared and told the guy he'd take the bet. 18 minutes later there were 24 empty Miller bottles on the bar and a fresh 50 in Tommy's pocket. I asked Tommy where he'd disappeared to and he replied "Oh I wanted to be sure I could down a case in 20 minutes, so I ducked over to The Tavern and timed myself, did the first case in 14 minutes"

  12. I like it as is. A diverse group of friendly folks who haven't (yet) told me to feck off. There is enough bicycling talk to encourage me to mount up, but not so much as to make me feel I can't participate. I like the range of subjects from general fitness, to running, to flying, to riding an airboat in the snow. Not to overlook photography, beer drinking, home improvement, and music. This is a social gathering that I can join without leaving my house. And can attend when hundreds of miles from home. The dodads and gizmos don't mean a lot to me, as long as I can open the page and it's in English, I'm good. Thank You O'Great Square One

  15. Our little dock is still in bad shape from the hurricane last October. It's been too cold to slosh around in the marsh, and I've been trying to decide what best to do. Finally decided. Called the Georgia DNR. Nice guy. If I leave it where it is and just re-sink the poles, all I would need is an acknowledgement from them and then the Tybee construction permit. I explained to him that the creek bed has drifted under the deck, so I really need to move the deck back towards land about twelve feet. If that's the case he says, then I would need to redo the entire permitting process as if I was putting in a new dock. Nineteen pages long. When I did this 25 years ago, I think it was three pages with a pencil drawing of what I wanted to build. The guy said he could not find the original permit, but that would be no problem. This is going to take a lot of PBR. And being as how this is the best swimming spot in the creek, this little dock gets a lot of use, so I need to get drinking, um repairing.

  16. I'm actually heading the opposite direction. Couple years back I would have wanted 3 big Kit Kats. Now I have a hard time eating any kind of a chocolate bar. If I ever do eat anything like that, I eat a small one and it's too much. Heck the other day I ate a cookie that I used to crave and love. I had a hard time getting it down and once I did, I felt sick. Amazing what a change in eating habits can do.

  19. Working on the poles may not be the best way to finance the new dock. I know many a nice, young woman that has worked on the poles to finance college, but you my friend don't have the assets that these women had.

  25. Jsharr nailed it. I would like to supplement that by suggesting any Forumite who has a semblance of marketing expertise may want to offer SW advice how to do this. This site grew out of the Love Forum imploding, and I think that 'market' has reaped all the benefits it ever will. To expand, this site needs to offer something that makes people stay after they come to this site (by however that may happen). Consider, SW, where your talents lie, and whether those strengths include developing a written marketing plan (if you're serious). Perhaps the strengths and talents you used to build this site do indeed include marketing. If not, then it may be time to search your network of people for some guidance. Maybe you can offer a 'trade' as it were if the person with marketing skills happens to be looking for information about establishing a site like this. And maybe some Forumites have some acquaintances in their respective networks who may have marketing experience and who may be willing to offer some moments of their time to advise SW. The only specific I might add is finding some way to make it inviting for people (guests) to register. The comments made about how familiar we are with each other, the inside references to Forum History, and the like may make it intimidating for people enter the 'club'. But then again, in keeping with jsharr's astute observation, the cafe' should not be the measure of growth or at least not the only measure of it. In turn, that leads to the thought that as part of your marketing plan you will need to define the metrics and measures of 'success'. I would also suggest do not hesitate to ask specific Forumites for advice should you feel they have something offer. In my opinion you wouldn't be imposing because you provide and manage this site for us. Of course it would be up to each person to consider if they want to contribute, and how they may best contribute if called upon.

  28. I've been going to the same lady for 35 years. We are close to the same age, worked next door to each other on 2 different occassions, they lived about 4 blocks away and my oldest daughter babysat her girls when they were young. At 57, she is still traffic-stopping beautiful and as nice as she is pretty. All that wouldn't matter if she couldn't cut hair, but she is great! Anymore I walk in, sit down and she starts cutting. We don't even talk about the hair. Just catch up on family and friends.

I'm feeling full of P & V so planning on stopping back by the gym late afternoon for an hour spin. I guess that'll make it a Quadrathlon for the day. lol

  45. Mmmm, beer! Great thread! Edmund Fitgerald is great, and so are Longjohn's selections. Chesterfield Ale is a great change of pace - almost IPA-like, very crisp and clear and just plain different. Tonight I had a draft Cape May IPA. Many of the same characteristics as the Chesterfield Ale - not a biting IPA, nice and smooth.
