  1. Ok, I stole this from another place but I'll go ahead a ruin the whole thread by posting my favorite answer from there. "Because unlike a woman, it lets me ride it whenever I want. And it doesn't mind if I chain it up outside the beer joint".

  4. Met three buddies this morning at Navy Federal. Roll out at 5:30. We did 25 miles thru North Arlington, 752 feet climbed. Quad-espresso at the coffee shop before cleaning up and going to work. Thursday mornings, a coworker always brings bread, meat and cheese to share. Today was Rosemary sourdough, roast beef and horseradish-cheddar. I like my job. For 2017 I've got 775 miles so far.

  6. Last Saturday my MTB chapter joined up with the local high school MTB racing league to build some bridges over some swampy areas in a relatively new trail system in Snake Den State Park in Johnston, RI. It's one of the most accessible parks for the densest population area in RI, so it has the potential to get a lot of traffic, so these wet areas needed to be addressed to keep the trails sustainable. This is pretty good video put together by a guy with a lot of video shooting and editing experience, and some of the footage is shot from a pretty neat drone that he brought.

  12. I read something in an old MTB magazine that hit home with me: a bike is to a cyclist as a horse is to a cowboy. I like that. A bike is more than transportation or a cargo hauler. It's my exploration buddy.

  14. Hello nice people, how is everyone? You know you miss the SW smileys when you're away. Road Runner granted me permission to say hello. Kim, I drink cold water and I have a kidney problem, small like a sand. Please fix my sky problem. I wish I had some exciting news to share but all is good but the same in Greenville. Kirby, I expect you to visit this year no later than May. I saw a thread where Zephyr was diving under the Artic ice or somesuch insanity proving once again he's cooler than Wilbur. I am now dreaming of remote control steel french casement windows and an automatic dutch door. Give me an update, something exciting.

  16. The other company outside my industry just contacted me today asking if I could meet with them next week and how soon could I start.... I told them I'd meet with them but I think they will come in much lower than the 1st place I referenced above. Good to have options though as one thing is certain, I'll not be employed by my current company come April 8th...

  17. Normally we would be working our way back to Wisconsin today but the weather has been fantastic here in Georgia. So we decided to stay here one more day and do some riding around here. And we can spung off the kid and eat all of his food for another day. The last few trips we would take 3 days to get home and stop somewhere in Tennessee or Kentucky and do some mountain biking but the weather calling for rain.

  18. This morning I made a hammer to go with it. forging miniature is not easy. After I messed up the first hammer I kept the second one a real simple shape. Hammer is made out of 1045 steel. Forged to shape then hardened, face polished and finished with linseed oil. To pick the proper size for the hammer I used my 100 lb H&S anvil and 3.5 lb cross pein hammer then reduced the hammer size to be proper scale for the 2 lb anvil.

  20. I used mine today to check for storm damage. we had 70+mph winds last night along with a wicked rain storm. This is a lot better option then having to do the roof climb with a couple of ladders. This morning WoK found a chimney cap in our yard... I now do not know who it belongs too, but I am posting a Lost and found for it online for our neighborhood. Maybe someone will claim it, and maybe not. Everything seems fine too me, but I did notice a few spots where the wood around the chimney needs to be replaced, or I will just add metal flashing to that section. (properly compared to the way someone else has done the rest of the house.. )

  21. As most of you know Haiti is a very special place for me. This challenge is about giving another human being a little dignity and nothing more. This person will never, ever be able to do a thing for you or even thank you. so here it is. While in Haiti this past week I met a woman named Mamu. She helps at one of the orphanages and lives in a small hut a ways away. One of the world relieve groups built her hut after the earthquake. What she does not have is a latrine to go to the bathroom in. She won't go to the bathroom during the day because her neighbors see her. unfortunately it takes a fair amount of money to build a simple latrine there. A hole 6-8 feet deep must be dug and then blocked up. Then a concrete slab with a hole is poured over the hole. Then a little block building is built. Sounds like a lot but in a land of termites and hurricanes it's what must be done. the total cost to have it built is $500. If I can get $250 in pledges I will cover the rest. If you'd like to help you can pm me. for those that do all I can offer is thanks and the promise of a picture next year. Thanks

  48. The girl I go to is the one that did my wife's hair. When my wife was going through chemo I would take her in and sit and wait on her. Chemo really messes with your hair and all of my wife's blond hair fell out. The funny thing was none of my wife's grey hair fell out. This girl worked with what was left and it really didn't look too bad. She always refused to take any money for the hair cuts, said when you get well and your hair grows back I'll start accepting your money again. That convinced me to start going there, and she is a really cute blonde. She does really nice work and is fun to talk to. My wife and I make our appointments together.
