Yes we did, a near thing too. They held the plane for 20 minutes while Luftansa reinstated our tickets. They didn't just cancel they removed almost all records of the flight plan. Was rather annoying, I got quite heated at the counter rep as they had the usual casual indifference I've encountered in Germany. Here in Turkey. The weather is wonderful, highs barely topping 70° with fully sunny skies. Going to visit father-in-law's at the cemetery and then the tomb of Ataturk. Then off to a nice dinner somewhere. Here's us trying not to transfer our frustration onto the already tired little one.8 points

“ Sometimes the nerdy, very bright and basically good students just … later, became incredible /accomplished in their fields “ My next door neighbor (about a half mile away) studied vocational agriculture in high school and now he’s out standing in his field.6 points

I pedaled 24 miles from Astoria Or to the Pacific Ocean and back. Day one of my coast to coast ride. Test ride to hook up the Bob and see how it worked. Stayed at the Lamplighter motel in Astoria. Yes- the one that serves fresh soup and fresh baked bread. It was tomato bisque that night. Who quits their job at the peak of a recession? Me, that’s who. Having the worlds worst boss makes the decision easier.5 points

This has been going on since... oh yeah, the last ice age. The earth, doesn't care, it is just us insignificant blobs of biological goo and future fossil fuels that do. Clearly, we need to add more taxes to everything to stop the ravages of global warming.5 points

At times. It was hard, satisfying, fun, inspiring, scary and refreshing at various turns. PS the first day was 12 miles each way, 24 total. 10 years later, it’s an experience I’m very glad I did.3 points

My garden lettuce mix is excellent this year, if I do say so myself, and I do! Goes very well with crumbled feta and Olive Garden crack cocaine dressing! It is aboot half various mescluns, with red leaf, red romaine, and bibb to balance all that bitterness with a little sweetness. I slightly overplanted, so there is plenty, too!3 points

Girls wear high waisted pants because their girlfriends tell them it looks good, knowing full well that no man really likes it thus trying to minimize the competition. Kind of like if we all were all going out for beers, I would try to convince each of you that you should wear crocs because they look great on you3 points

The new derailleur hanger is here. It is much better than the one that broked. A buddy gave me an old wheel. I need to put the new hanger on tonight and see if I can bend around the cage to get it right again. If not I have a couple other derailleurs that I can slap on there. Hope to get it up and running this week.2 points

I've been limited in USA travel, but from the list I've been to the Mendenhall Glacier (though not the caves); Devil's Tower; Assateague Island here on Maryland's Atlantic Coast (and its wild ponies); New River Gorge Bridge, West Virginia; Indiana Dunes; and the Badlands in SD. There are other sites that have taken my breath away by their beauty and uniqueness more than most on the list and include the Norris Geyser Basin in Yellowstone National Park, Niagara Falls, and the Luray Caverns in Virginia. It was at Mendenhall Glacier that I saw my first Bald Eagles. Before our Alaska Cruise in 2002 I had contacted a distant Alaskan relative I had met on the Internet and who took us on a personal tour of Juneau when we arrived. At the Mendenhall Glacier glacier, she said nonchalantly, "When we were in high school, on the days we hooked school we used to hang out over there by the tree where those bald eagles are." To her, the bald eagles were an everyday occurrence, so she was surprised by our reaction. To us, seeing bald eagles was almost as spectacular as the glacier itself. Later on, since the salmon were running, we saw a couple stretches where the trees had nearly turned white with the hundreds of bald eagles in them - a sight we Mid-Atlantic folks will never forget.2 points
