  1. Took the trip up there. Womaxx enjoyed it so I don't feel too bad about a day trip just for me. It's a bicycle forum so we will get the essentials out of the way early. And for br-46 For Wilbur, I found the plane for your new business. First class is first class Wilbur

  2. There is so much to see here that it's impossible to show it all in pictures. There is a third building now, constructed just to house this one plane (although there is an WWII F6F tucked in against the rear wall for lack of space elsewhere) This is the site where I used to fly helicopters for the visitors. I would stand almost under the B-29's nose and fly between there and the inboard engine, away from flying over the crowd. So that was todays trip. I had a good time. Womaxx had a good time and insisted on this last pic.

  5. Rode the fattie at camp yesterday (some on dirt road, some on deer trail). Just went to the store on the Sirrus to buy some fruit. It's only about 6 blocks away, and I didn't feel like ending my ride. So I cruised around town a bit.

  8. The protagonists of the Korean War parked nose to nose The Mig 15 and the sabrejet The volunteers who man the museum and who provide labor time to the restoration of these aircraft told me that it took almost 3 years of volunteer polishing to restore this DC3 to it's original owners colors.

  9. For those who thought the first manned flight in the US was the Wright Bros........The first manned flight was actually a balloon. We're very close to Springfield here, the home of the Granville brothers. This is a replica, not an original. This is also a replica, originally built for Cole Palen's Flying Circus in Rhinebeck NY. It was flown once and Cole declared the workmanship unsafe for further flying.

  12. Carne Adovada. I started with 2 oz dried Ancho chiles and 2 oz dried NM chiles. Soaked in boiling water for 30 minutes. Drained them and puréed with garlic, vinegar, honey, cumin, Mexican oregano, cayenne pepper and salt. Added two cups of the reserved liquid. Poured over 3 lbs pork tenderloin and placed on the Weber grill with hardwood and hickory for two hours.

  17. We didn't do a whole lot on the BIKE shed yesterday, bit we did get good things done. HoSmudge spent a few days at camp and got two windows set in. We measured and leveled and installed shims. The two windows didn't have a nailing flange, so they were a little difficult, but we got them in ok. The door went in fairly well too considering the only shims we had left were the remnants from the windows. The counter top in the corner will be my work bench. Looks like I have a heckuvalotta more room for bikes than I thought! DoSmudge2 says I could fit ten in there. Gotta start shopping!! I stayed after supper and put a coat of paint on the door. It's actually an indoor door (solid core, so not flimsy or lightweight!), and we're supposed to get rain. I wanted a little protection for it, so I painted the outside of it. It's a little beat up, but the paint makes it look pretty nice! I'll probably put a couple more coats on the outside. Inside is really rough; probably at least three coats there too.

  20. I wired one years ago. They knew exactly what they wanted, and they wanted it yesterday. That all brown color scheme is depressing as hell before they hang all the knick knacks. Something I never saw before or since; the guy that did the floor in the kitchen. Dumped a big pile of sand, Portland cement, & I don't what else. Mixed it with a roto tiller while adding water with a hose. Worked like a charm. I like the food occasionally, not a steady diet. Esp. the country ham & hash brown casserole

  21. The softball team came back out of hiatus strong and won out winning league. They had another double header and with one win would have clinched so i was asked to come back out of retirement to pitch game one. It was a close game but we won 7-4. With the league clinched my son pitched game 2, the first time he ever pitched softball. I rotated at 3rd with the other old timer on the team and we mixed up the line up so others could play different positions. We made a lot of errors but had a blast and the bats were hot so we won 18-8. I told them I’d be an on call player again next season but we are getting bumped up into a higher division...

  23. So...I had the monthly statements to put out..got going on those right away..but had a few weekend issues to write work orders for..2 statements were missing and I goofed a few weeks back and charged the wrong person for a meal..had to get that corrected....A lovely African woman (maybe Somali) who is a care giver...we have just chatted a bit in the hallway or elevator..I had asked if she was happy when Ramadan was over..and she started chatting about the food...anyway she popped into my office just in time for break with WARM Sambusas YUM after break I continue to work away at the statements and the interruptions that are part of my day...I came back from somewhere...with 2 notes about TV's taped to my door and I had taken a call about one earlier. Had a quick lunch..salad and more Sambusas (she brought me 4) I returned to a cell phone call from the daughter of a resident..her phone wasn't working..is is on an analog line for lifeline..I did the standard trouble shoot for our old building..including moving a damn heavy dresser (I had to take 2 drawers out before I could budge it)...no fix...checked on the resident handing out telephone directories for me...and got a call from another resident with no analog phone...called our provider they wanted to come out but they felt it was probably on the Century Link lines...Century Link wouldn't deal with me...so we had to pay for a Popp tech to come out and tell us it was outside the building..which our installer said and I had already tested...So while I waited for the tech...I worked on the 3 TV's...One she just needed new batteries in her remote...but had no AA's (I had some in the office)...she is a lovely lady who's memory is pretty faded but she manages...#2 was another lady with memory issues...except she unhooked stuff and re-connected stuff including shutting off the power...hers took a bit longer to fix The 3rd one was a simple re-boot...by then the phone guy showed up and WELL in addition to 8 or so people not having phone of lifeline..the entry phones are not on line...the emergency lines in the elevators are not working..and our 911 pull cord dialer is not working..I posted signs at the 2 doors with phones..I put a message on the television and I managed to explain the situation to 3 board members and get the monthly statements put out...Then I got a call from the lady across the street...she had mail for someone in our building... I finally escaped at 4:35...but I have bored meeting here to discuss the caretakers job description and the budget!! YAY ME THE END

  24. Just remember diabetes varies by individuals, and triggers vary by individual. What works for one does not always work for another. I seldom try and give advice, but tell the individuals that ask about the variation and its impact on control. Plus, I shoot insulin and that is a very different situation from the ones for Mick and Chris.

  27. I often wonder how many people never found their scissors/big knives after I had been at their house. Whenever I got called to a residence, anytime i noticed knives or scissors out on the counter I would just quietly just open a random drawer, and drop the items in and close it again. Outta sight, outta mind. Only once did someone ever ask why I did it. I simply said "So you don't pick it up and make me shoot you"

  28. You will find me at the New England Air Museum tomorrow. Perhaps I will bring back pictures. For the last few years I've been there to fly in a drone show and didn't have time to look around. We used to go regularly and I was allowed access to the storage area. It's a much larger tourist attraction now than it used to be. They can't afford to be as flexible as back in the day when I could crawl into a plane out in the field because the volunteers were there restoring it. It's still a great stop if you're down this way. It's not Dayton, but it's good.

  29. I didn't want to bring it up, but Kirby's thread was inspiring. Many times when you post pics, there you are in your Target clearance sale ensembles. You post pics of your adorable pets surrounded by furniture not fit for Goodwill. I find this odd since most of you really excelled when you chose your spouse. Then there's the color of Wheel's new car, please don't get me started. I need you to shape up or shape out. Goochie, goochie, Cheese

  30. I think there are different ways you can go about carb management for diabetics but the key is to limit them. My management plan has been to limit bread & pasta and my carbs are plant based to include fruit. But let me explain further. I eat an apple with lunch and I like a piece of fruit after dinner such as citrus or a peach or nectarine. Sometimes I’ll eat melon & berries. I don’t eat bananas & grapes. I also don’t eat desserts, the fruit is my dessert. Diabetics can eat rice, pasta & bread in moderation just as they can eat fruit in moderation.

  31. Mine as well. Then off down a rabbit hole to watch the original band and covers by Three Dog Night, Phish and Polyphonic Spree and some google foo to find out the meaning. All made up. 73 men sailed her is just a made up line. The number 73 is the number of keys on the keyboard used for the opening riff.
