  2. Just to update... I made it home just fine. I was working in an area that was very close to a bridge, it's a section of downtown that is well west of the main area of downtown. There was not much going on where I was at. I am scheduled there again tomorrow. I painted the legs of my table, helped Griffin cook dinner and helped Emmy do her pitching drills outside. And I tried to explain to them what was going on with the people on the TV. Then I slept about 9 hours last night. It was glorious.

  4. Wade put new taars on his Tahoe yesterday. He is 19 and wants a cool looking truck, so he went with a semi aggressive all terrain tire. Looks damn good, and I bit my tongue and did not get on him about mileage and wear and road noise. He can learn about that when his is old and grumpy. It was cool to see how proud he was of the tires.

  8. When I was a kid, one next door neighbor rented out their house and several families were living in it. They had numerous cars & felt the street in front of their house was their parking so would yell at my oldest brother not to park there. My brother repeatedly told them to F’ off. Well one night somebody broke into his car, put in in neutral, released the brake and pushed it down the street. My brother was pissed but never said a word about revenge. However a few nights later someone punctured all 4 tires on every one of their cars. Someone also shimmied up the power li

  10. Not a Death Jim alert but a weather alert all the same. Next week will see a drop in temperatures, mostly in the Midwest as the jet stream drops lower. Minnesota and the UP are expected to see highs in the 50’s and nighttime lows in the 30’s. I hope all you, “I can’t wait for summer to be over” people are happy now.

  14. It's very difficult to be a moderate in this world. In some forums I am hated as a liberal. In others hated as a conservative. It seems that if you do not march in lockstep you are the enemy. I like some conservative ideas. I like some liberal ideas. I don't like some conservative ideas. I don't like some liberal ideas. Being a political animal in some other forums, this makes me the enemy of all.

  15. I do. I also feel for the people in Louisville that are having their property burned down. I feel for the friends of mine that lost their business in 'peaceful protests' from looting and burning. I feel for my friends of color who have had to endure years of harassment at the hand of officials. I feel for my friends in public safety who put their lives on the line every time they go to work. I feel for my friends who are wives of LOEs who worry if their husbands will come home every time they leave for work. None of us have the answers. None of us were on the grand jury panel.

  17. I laugh when I read about people being concerned about road noise. Hell, just turn up the radio. If it gets too quiet, I get sleepy. Just curious, did you ever drive or ride in a car that had holes in the floor board? That is when you notice road noise, as well as drafts.

  18. There is a military saying Class 1. Or Grade A. It would be like saying that @Randomguy is a Class 1 Grade A fuckstick or something like that. As long as it's got the word fuck thrown in there at least twice for good measure. (Let the record show that I don't believe RG to be a fuckstick, but he was the first name to come to my head)

I guess that tells you how smart I is .....I went 20 miles for that lousy tasting coffee when I would have to only walk 20 feet to the kitchen for a better cup of coffee. I bet that if I would have asked nicely Wo46 would have brought me one without me getting up.

  20. I hear what everyone is saying about "right to protest". But I feel like we tried that. And it didn't work. Downtown Lville has been set on fire, windows broken, things destroyed, businesses closing left and right. The people that live and work here are done with it. DONE. I don't care what the news is showing. THIS IS NOT PEACEFUL. And I don't care if it's black people, white people, BLM, KKK, whoever is doing it. It needs to stop. I am 110% behind the cops here. Curfews were made and enforced. Good for them. The people that have come to our city from other places need to go home

I was on our fair board with the doctor and had many good visits with Gale. Gale donated to many local charities.

  22. My only question is "Where is the extra required electricity going to come from?" Solar and wind are not there yet efficiency-wise and I dont know about Cali but here the only way we have enough electricity to get us through is by 'stockpiling' it during quiet times like the middle of the night, which will no longer be quiet when umpteen million cars are charging. I love the idea, the execution worries me

  23. We were much nicer than most when I had a house in VA Beach. (3 E6 sailors). The street that our house fronted on was angle parking with 2 no parking spaces where our driveway entered. Usually we were able to park in front of the house but if necessary would park in the driveway, stacking cars in the expected order of next departure. Did I mention that we were 1 1/2 blocks from the beach in downtown VA Beach. You know that assholes just had to park in the blank spaces leading to our driveway, especially on weekends. Enter the shop jack. After people parked and left for the beach we woul

  24. Agreed. I appreciate our local police here I really do. But, I have not been victim to being clubbed and beaten. They are pretty good here. We don't hear about the abuse. Maybe I am in a bubble, cause we don't have all that kind of racial injustice and people being shot and killed by bad cops. Had one incident where my husband was passing a stop sign and this patrol car came screaming up and seemed like he wasn't going to stop. I think it is possible he didn't see my husband. My husband said "Whoa. Stop sign." <as he pointed at the sign> The cop became irate and stared scr

  26. Lots of wrong going on. I know it’s pissing you off, it pisses me off too but it’s a complex and dynamic situation. I wish I had a better answer but I don’t. Remember I walked away from my job as a cop 30 years ago due to a culture of violence I just couldn’t get on board with. I have been discussing police abuse for decades, I get it. Shit I was a part of it. But I can’t support some of the protest behavior either. Just a lot of wrong all around...

  28. The Geneva Protocol does not allow the use of chemical agents but it also doesn’t specifically specify is CS or non lethal gassed can be used. The military has used CS gas in the past to quell violent protests and it was used to “smoke out” tunnels in Vietnam. We had CS in our inventory but as a soldier I never deployed it and I was in several riots. I find this point interesting (against the Geneva Protocol) as chemical agents used as a form of non lethal interventionist has been in use for decades. Please be careful with the labels here as not all police are fuckers just as

  34. Quite a lot of good insight there. I've had my doubts about the Taylor situation for a while. I don't buy into the "don't commit crimes and cops won't kill you" narrative, too many black folks I know have a FAR different experience. But in the Taylor case, there's a reason a warrant was being served there. And yes, one cop was stupid to fire randomly, he got charged. But (especially in today's no gray area society), after enough watching kids get shot in the park and guys having their neck knelt on for 8 minutes, anger lumps it all in together and muddies all reason. And when t

  35. So does the grand jury revelation that is WAS NOT a no knock warrant and witness corroboration of that fact change anything. They knocked, they announced themselves. They forced entry and were fired upon. So the grand jury is wrong? They examined the evidence and reached a conclusion. I feel horrible for the young woman that died, but she was knowingly or unknowingly associating with criminals. Sometimes when you break the law, bad stuff happens. Inevitable. Are there bad cops, sure, but the culture has changed. Cops are getting gunned down in record numbers. I live in

  37. I liked the 70's a lot because a lot of early-life struggles resulted in final success: graduated from college, got to live on campus in grad school, got an industrial chemistry job and was promoted to Chief Chemist, got my first new car, a 12 string-guitar, and other "luxuries." I liked the 80's because I found the groove I belonged in: I was appointed to government committees at the State Legislature and onto our county's Landfill Laws Commission and was elected Political Advisor for one of the state's largest political clubs. I realized bench chemists had the shortest lifespans of col
