Longjohn ★ Posted April 22, 2021 Share #2 Posted April 22, 2021 It depends who your hugging. The way you hug your wife should be different than the way you hug a woman at church.

UglyBob Posted April 22, 2021 Share #5 Posted April 22, 2021 It's all about hand placement and duration. Oh, and whether you whisper something creepy in their ear.

Popular Post Longjohn ★ Posted April 22, 2021 Popular Post Share #14 Posted April 22, 2021 Where and with who determines the difference. I have had some great hugs from my wife in the shower. The same kind of hug would be a bad hug if you were in prison. I really miss my wife.
shootingstar Posted April 23, 2021 Share #15 Posted April 23, 2021 A good hug....that's not your spouse....is light and the person could also touch you lightly on shoulder and say something like, "good to see you". I find this issue rather interesting...on the Asian side, especially if you're more westernized, yes of course. But it is so possible to greet a person warmly by holding their hand and tipping your head forward respectfully, eyes on floor. People so uncertain about hugging, should look to how some Asian cultures greet or say good-bye more formally, with deep respect and love. There is a way to do it that's personalized and with a real smile. It's not hard nor disrespectful.
shootingstar Posted April 23, 2021 Share #16 Posted April 23, 2021 Aside from dearie who is no more :( , I personally find it slightly awkward to hug other men in my life...ie. brother-in-law, etc. My family only got into hugging one another within the last 20 yrs. We do it especially when not seeing one another for many months/several years.
Prophet Zacharia Posted April 23, 2021 Share #17 Posted April 23, 2021 I don’t hug anyone other than my family, a very few close family friends, and on very rare occasion close work friends on their last day of employment. The limited church services I have been to, hands have been shaken with surrounding parishioners, not hugs. I’m not a hugger, and I think it’s not a bad policy.
12string Posted April 23, 2021 Share #18 Posted April 23, 2021 My family and my wife's family are quite the hug and kissers. Anyone coming around needs to be prepared for a good hug. My DiL is an exception, we wait for her to initiate if she wants a hug. I don't know if it's upbringing or Filipino culture. Daughter's BF, also Filipino, is always up for a great bear hug. Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted April 23, 2021 Share #19 Posted April 23, 2021 According to Websters and Merriam, A good hug makes both participants feel good. A bad hug makes one or more participants feel icky.
