Popular Post dinneR ★ Posted January 10, 2022 Popular Post Share #1 Posted January 10, 2022 My classic skis and boots are about 20 years old. My boots are falling apart and one pole is bent. My GF told me I should upgrade the whole set-up. I went to a shop yesterday to look at boots and they had a nice set of skin skis, boots, and poles for a fair price. I have credit at the shop. So I'm thinking it over. Today at lunch, Outside mag is on the table. I open it and the same skis are featured in the best Nordic gear of the year. Seems like a strange coincidence. I'm very tempted. When it comes to off-track nordic adventures, skin skis, which use built-in alpine-style climbing skins under the foot to produce grip, are the way to go. They require minimal maintenance, so you can pretty much just slap them on at your back door and head off into the woods. Atomic’s Savor boasts a new silhouette designed with maneuverability in mind: it’s wider and shorter, with a gradual sidecut for a stable yet nimble ride that skiers of all abilities will enjoy,. At 46 millimeters underfoot, they’re also skinny enough to fit into groomed tracks.

Other Classic Cross Country skis were blank and you used kick wax to create grip. Mine were Fish scales or a roughed patch, to create your grip or kick. These skin skis are kind of new. The skin creates your grip to propel you forward. You wax the tip and the tail with glide wax so you kick and then glide. Skins are silent or quiet and fish scales make a buzzing sound. skins fish scales

My Alpine Touring skis have a full length skin that you stick on the ski to travel uphill and take off to ski downhill. Plus the fact that she used to sell ski equipment. She knows way more than I do. This is what she emailed to me. She is never one to skimp on gear. She always buys the best stuff. The skins are way better than the fish scales for sure. You know this from skinning uphill. They are bloody amazing.

Worrying about faulty equipment, or having to stop and sinch up, affects level of satisfaction and might deter going into new areas to ski. Really good equipment, though, and there’s an effortless feeling. 1 1

It makes some of these sports so enjoyable. I enjoy skiing even if I am not great at it. I try to get out 3-4 times a week.
