  1. It has the most comfortable drivers seat I've ever sat in, start to get a bit stiff or sore, just fiddle with the 8 ways to Sunday power controls till it feels better. The instant gas mileage readout is addicting, tromp on it and watch it drop to 8, back off just as you top a hill and start down the other side, I got it to touch 98 MPG ! Average since I bought it is 22 MPG. Which I feel is pretty good for an AWD storage shed with comfortable seats. Sum bitch is a lot faster than you would expect. Wife says she misses the Element, but she does a lot less moaning over bumps in this. All in all I'm glad I bought it.

  5. Two men from Greenville were waiting at the bus stop when a truck went past loaded up with rolls of turf. Cheese said, “I'm gonna do dat when I win da lottery.” “What’s dat den?” asks Bubba. “Send me lawn away to be cut.”

  6. Hot day forecast for today. I needed to ride (for medicinal purposes ) and I wanted to get some little climbing in. Sort of like interval training with a better view. The route selected was a paved trail through green space and park land along the river. So I'm doing my thing and I come up on some doings ahead of me on the trail. It looks like a coyote has something down and is eating it. I was still a distance away and under the canopy with dark glasses on. The scene is not real clear but it looks like a coyote or dog is eating on a pretty big creature. Maybe a deer, I don't know. I slow down. As I get about 20-30 yards away, the canine pulls the entrails out of the creature and its looking like the creature is a small person. Trust me, this is an 'OH SHIT' moment. So I steel myself and speak in a commanding voice, "You had better get the hell out of here." The dog looks up, the woman who had been laying on the pavement doing exercises jumps up, I started repeating "I thought a coyote had a person down, I thought a coyote had a person down", the dog starts barking like crazy, the women restrains the dog by the leash trying calm him by voice. I rode on. Damn runners. Damn dogs.

  7. Had a get together of what we call the cousins. Several came from SoCal and one from Hawaii. A bit bittersweet. Had a really good time. Great to see everyone. My mom was an organizer of keeping the family together. She died in December. So this was the first get together without her. She would have loved it. Saw this picture. It is my dad me and my sister in Florida. We had just moved from Connecticut. My 2 other brothers had not been born yet. I have never seen this picture before of my dad. He looks so happy

  10. 18 mile gravel ride from Leesburg VA to Waterford VA. 1,249 feet of climbing. Passed this farm that said it was settled in 1760, one year after Arthur Guinness opened a brewery in Dublin. Beautiful place to ride, horse farms and wineries with views of the Blue Ridge. After we went to Vanish, a local brewery for IPAs and barbecue.

  12. She is getting big and is just as cute as ever. When we were up at the cabins in July I made sure we didn’t run out of corn. We ate eight dozen ears during the week. She is one of the granddaughters that we just bought bigger Trek bikes for last week. She managed to flat a rear tire on it already so I replaced the tube last night. She had a birthday while we were on vacation, turned five. She is in the middle, her sister on the left just turned seven and the one on the right turned three. That is her little Trek that she grew out of. And here she is going on a bike ride with her dad and her sisters. Here she is riding her new bike. It fits her a lot better. She still likes corn her twin brothers like corn too.

  15. You know, I'll probably never be able to ride this trail again. Out of embarrassment, mostly. "So I'm doing leg lifts on the running trail and suddenly I hear a voice of thunder say, "You need to get the hell out of here." I jump up with my can of mace, the dog starts going ape shit, and some old man in his underwear rides by on a bike."

  16. 51.3 miles before church. I chose a route with some climbing. I registered for the Carmel Valley double century on Aug 25. It will likely be the most difficult double I have ever ridden, but also the most beautiful scenery. It starts in King City, then to Carmel and past Monterrey, then down the PCH with lunch at Big Sur. After lunch is the climb up Nacimiento-Ferguson Rd, then back to King City.

  17. This would make a good opening scene for a horror film. It sets up some tension, then lets you breathe a sigh of relief when you see what's really happening. Of course, the next scene would be the cyclist turning his head back to the trail after he passes and immediately being knocked off his bike and gutted by a large animal with razor sharp teeth.

  18. The young lady was laying on the trail with her head pointed to me doing exercises with her dog by her side. She was restraining the dog with a leash while she was doing the exercises. The leash looked to be a black nylon strap about 1" wide. The dog was tugging at the strap while she was exercising. She was holding the strap at her waist and the dog managed to get some leash away from her. It looked like the dog had opened her up and was pulling her guts out. I couldn't see clearly in the low light and I was confused over what I saw. I thought I saw a wild coyote feasting on a dead carcass of significant size. I figured it out in the end though.?

  26. The county fair a few years back was featuring a "high diving pig" (not to be confused with "high flying pig") act. Some animal rights folks got worked up and insisted that the humane officer investigate the act. The act consisted of a dozen or so pigs running up a ramp, jumping off a diving board into a swimming pool, climbing out of the pool & running up the ramp again. His observation was that the pigs seemed to be having fun. "It looked to me like they were smiling"

  27. 43 hot, humid, and hilly miles in just under 3 hours. One of the group hit a sharp rock that was in the middle of an otherwise smooth road and had a sidewall blowout. It was 3 miles from the finish so I got my car and drove back to pick him up. Two other riders stayed with him. That's an advantage of group rides.

  29. Last week to pay for horse hay and sheep shearing, as I had let my cash reserve run down. I'll probably write a few more today for monthly bills. We are not trusting enough to do everything on line. County Treasurer will let you pay by card, but there is a surcharge that we refuse to pay. It is all good, and we continue to roll along life's highway.

  30. Seems to me they run to join their buddies at the end of the arena, with or without ropes. That is what they do when they turn a bunch of steers loose between rounds. Picking steers seems to be a 'science', as at one roping I attended this year, they started using slower steers in one round when the wind got severe, so there was a better chance of catching one. This was actually announced over the PAsystem.

  34. So far so good. I'm upwind from the airport so at least I can't smell the exhaust but I'm on the north end of the runway and the jets take off heading south. Because of the noise abatement issues they can't take off prior to 7 am Mon - Sat and 9 am Sun. I head out the door as the first jets spool up their engines each morning which is pretty loud but once they get to the other end of the runway I can't hear them.
