  1. I rode my 3-speed for four miles. The neighborhood street was very bumpy, which jostled my hand too much, so I dropped into first gear and went uphill to the bike path along the foothills. It felt good to be on a bike again, so I rode for a few miles, then turned downhill home again while I was still feeling good.

  2. Not sure what's been going on the past couple of days. I get it, we're a diverse group and won't always agree. Many posts have been hidden; some were in incredibly poor taste. Several members are receiving warnings points. I suspect some might move away for a while. Seriously, we all have struggles, we all have bad days. This is a place to come have a little fun, not make others feel like crap, so stop it.

  3. English is the second language for Denmark. Day to day I shouldn't have an issue. My daughter is only 4 now so picking up Danish in primary school will be pretty straightforward for her. For citizenship you do need to pass a Danish language exam but a standard work visa is 4 years so if I can secure a job then I will have time to learn and fully integrate into the society. Funnily enough as I speak about this, you guys are the first people I am bouncing this off of, I got an official email from the Denmark Immigration service to join a Career Day career fair for Highly Qualified candidates. My current career is something currently sought after pretty heavily in a lot of countries so I think finding a job shouldn't be too difficult

  5. I think it went ok. He was a little tough to read, but I know I gave him some responses he liked. The guy who did the first interview was under the weather and did not attend. Interviewer 2 is going to give his feedback so we can proceed to the next step.

  6. We're starting to look at this more seriously. With my eventual demise a high probability we're looking at exit strategies for wife and child. Reasoning is varied but for the most part it boils down to support, affordability, and access to social structures. Here in the US, regardless of your politics I'm sure most of you can agree, unless you can fend for yourself with a meaningful income (middle class if that even technically exists) with a job that offers stellar medical and/or have support of family you are in for a tough time as a single parent. We are more and more thinking we don't mind a hike in what we pay for taxes if we actually see something in return. Better access to healthcare, education, and other social nets. I'm not assuming that my family will be destitute after I am gone but they will be more limited and if moving to another country now can establish a few years as residents/citizens of a nation that benefits them, then I'm game. For all our travels we gravitate to the Scandinavian cultures. We loved Denmark and Norway as well as Sweden. There are plenty of tech companies where my skills are highly sought after, the cost of living may be high but the social benefits seem to far outweigh the additional expenditure. This would put family closer to relatives who want to help and can physically and financially help if needed too. For all the love I have for my immediate family I have reservations that when I'm gone they'll give a single shit about my wife or child. My parents at least on the surface love having a grandchild but in the end their 50 miles distance may as well be the ocean for how hard it is to convince them to come and visit her. It's always on us. Besides that their finances are suspect at best. If my wife we left as the sole provider they'd never be anything but an additional cost. My twin sister is, well herself. Again she loves being an Auntie but if the new boyfriend is still with the new-boyfriend-smell then we're so far from her mind she won't call for weeks. Elder sister is the same except also hundreds of miles away. I actually applied to my first job in Copenhagen. I have no illusions that I'd get this one but its a start of putting feelers out there. I understand on a surface level the requirements of immigration and am continuing to learn. Hopefully some conversations with headhunters or job interviews can illuminate other challenges we'll have to research.

  7. The elderly neighbor's phone is fixed. The tech, who seemed very knowledgeable, replaced the junction terminals inside the box outside where the line from the pole meets the lines in the house and cleaned up the wire ends. All good now. Technician good. Call center help desk not so good.

  8. SW, you owe nothing to anybody on this Forum: no explanations, no corrections. If a post gets removed, there's not a single person on this Forum who is so dull they can't figure out the likely reasons(s).

  10. If you lived nearby, I would bake a pie. A Petite Pie; for the apple of my eye. This pie used one apple with a crumble topping. Ice cream would be a dream. But, cheese would also serve to please.

  12. 1 base station and two remotes. After the tech was done I had to fix all the stupid things I had changed in the menu system when I was first testing for phone or line problems. I had turned all the ringers off, the volumn down, invoked some sort of hold on both remotes. I needed a 15 year old to set everything up faster. When I was done she asked me if the manual would help Manual? You have a manual for these? Yes that probably would have helped.

  13. There is no way she could operate a cell phone. At the least it would need to be one of those senior citizen specials with the big keys and very limited choices of what can be done. I guess I really didn't know how many senior citizens were so technically illiterate. It just never dawned on me because of my career and training that a phone could be so hard to use. Still, we do watch over her, checking to make sure her lights come on and go off at approximately the right times and that she's ok. Womaxx goes over sometimes just to be some company.

  16. No. He does the peleton from time to time. He NEVER liked riding road, just did it to train for cx. Once covid hit and all the races got cancelled he quit training because he didn't want to train when there were no races. He really likes High school Xc and swim. He trains hard at them. I still have hope that he may do tri again one day but I think Cx is done. It was a good run. He is still super active and is happy competing in high school sports so that is all I care about.

  17. I went from being a Brady hater to actually liking him. I felt like it was the system and not him in New England. Boy, I was wrong. And I can admit that. What he has done at his age of 78 years old is pretty awesome.

  19. There was a couple where he was married when he hooked up with another LF member not sure if she was divorced yet or not. The only hook up I am interested in is a cycling companion...or as one of my friends called me..his "bike wife"...his "real" wife was thrilled he had someone to bike with..and put up with him it gave her a break at least once a week for a few hours.

  21. I’ve been thinking about the differences between me and the guys around here who have one arm, and one leg, and who ride all the local hills and routes. What keeps me from just getting on the bike without full use of my right hand? So far, it’s my fear of falling that’s been stopping me. I’m afraid I’ll seriously damage myself, and I don’t want to leave mr. to take care of me and #2 son. I don’t think you did much riding during the time you were taking care of someone. It would destroy me if I set off to ride with one hand, fell over, broke a bunch of stuff, and then mr. wouldn’t get to do his thing because I need daily care. I’m also without a point to prove to myself or anyone else. I have other means of processing trauma or of validation, or whatever.

  29. Those bigass Pepperidge farm oatmeal raisin. So soft and chewy. Oh my! Plus it will piss off the anti oatmeal raisin lobby as a bonus. Ahh, here we go. Santa Cruz. However, they are not $15.89 good. Damn that bozo Bezos!
