I had to use a couple of words that I knew didn’t work because missing a letter or had a letter in a space where us was already established that it wasn’t working just to try and nail down a few spots where the already guessed letters went. hard one today.

  16. So...called Johnson Fitness again I turn on the fan and the speed goes up and down...I told the guy I paid $1350 for this and you have been out 4 times and I have used vacation to be home for the 4 hour window. The Johnson fitness guy passed it on to either Horizon or corporate.. This woman called this afternoon and wanted me to disconnect the heartrate monitor...I said...that ain't happening, I paid for it to be assembled..I have no clue about taking it apart..she said we can send a tech...I said FINE..I dont get home til after 5pm and I have no one to cover for me until June 8...and I really don't want to use MY VACATION for a 5th service call..her response "well we have never had this problem before"...Gee..that's not what the tech's told me...She might replace the entire treadmill..and I said..who is to say the new treadmill won't have the same issues...then she asked if I spilt water on it . Petitepedal is not happy...don't mess with me.

  17. Even the old ones. I had read an obit yesterday of someone who had the same and rather unusual surname of someone I worked with many years ago. But I couldn't remember his first name. He was referred to by everyone by his surname and seldom was his first name ever mentioned. This was about 40 years ago. I racked my brain trying to come up with his first name for 24 hours or so with no luck. Then, just a few minutes ago, it forcefully and clearly popped into my head. "GORDON!", my brain said. I hadn't thought much about him for 40 years and certainly hadn't thought at all about his first name, yet there it was, squirreled away somewhere in the deep, dark recesses of my now feeble mind.

  18. Have I got the right relation? A 2nd baby daughter of my nephew. THis is the nephew who lost their son last year to brain cancer @3.5 yrs. (and who lost his mother/my sister). She was actually born last month...but there was something related to baby health which required to take baby to hospital. I didn't ask. Probably will learn later. The parents are very busy...other daughter is 3 yrs. old. My nephew is in the midst of full-time medical studies. His wife had been working as a pediatrician (though probably not right now). This is how communication in our extended family....sometimes grossly delayed and sometimes mistaken gaps. For instance, 1 sister didn't even know I had a concussion until 4 months later. I think it was a situation other sisters assumed she was told. No, we don't get fussed, if a person genuinely wasn't told/didn't know. But I know in other families, it would be a huge blow-up for some folks. Heck celebration of birthdays....gets delayed amongst siblings. You might receive an in-person gift several weeks or more often, several months later. Even if most are living in same city.

  20. I am the old guy at work. After hours, if (and that is a big "IF") I am going to socialize, I just try to do it with people who are not total assholes. Most of my 'socializing' is me doing stuff and people wanting to come along. Normally I am the oldest because not a lot of people my age out here doing what I want to do

  22. If you solve it, you win. If you don’t, so what? It’s a mental exercise and that’s good for the brain. I solved today’s in four. But it was difficult for me. I’ve solved others in three and it ‘felt’ easy. So today’s was a triumph, because I knew I could simply look in here and find the answer in the spoiler thread. But I didn’t. And that’s a win. 😊

  30. As my uncle was in hospice he had a bunch of adult diapers & bed mats. We had to get the house ready for a reception so I told my aunt I’d donate them to a worthy cause. But I had every intention of dumping them at work. Unbeknownst to me WOChrisL called an old folks home explained what happened and asked if they wanted any of the stuff. They gladly accepted and so it went to good use!

  31. When we cleaned out my parents house, we were always so happy when we found a good home for things with people who would use them. It felt like a nice way to honor my parents. We threw out a lot of stuff that wasn't suitable to be reused, but I loved seeing things finding a new life. Sounds like you're doing a good job finding the right home in appropriate cases.

  32. I talked to my sister today about having to look for furniture to finish off my home's needs and mentioned getting a queen bed for one of the spare bedrooms since I'm expecting visitors from out of state to resume by next year. I have one queen bed now and sleep half the time on my recliner, so another bed or two should be the max I need. She said that when she was getting her son's apartment ready in Phoenix the last couple of weeks and he was going to be there with an unusual couple of days off flight attending, she ordered a queen air mattress from Amazon. She liked it better than his queen bed. It's just $149, sits 20" above the floor, is self-inflating and can be rolled up and stored when not in use. It's also available in white, $119.95 twin, $179.95 king, and a little less for 16" and 13" queen and twin sizes. It beats paying upwards of $1000 for a regular queen bed and I can roll in up in the storage bag that comes with it and use the spare room for other things. I can also take it with me if I'm going to a relative's wedding, etc. and the relative I'm staying with needs a bed for me - which can be rolled right up and out of the way in the morning. A couple of pillows, sheets and blanket and I'm good! and if I needed another bed because of a boatload of guests coming into town for some event, I'd get another bed for $149.95! 75% of the 28,423 ratings a 5 stars and 12% 4 stars. Some complained that they had to add air often after months of use, but I don't expect anyone to sleep on it every day.

  34. Last yr. I offloaded dearie's folding bike to someone's brother. It did have a tiny hairline crack in frame and I showed it. Anyway, as long he doesn't go bombing down a steep hill, etc. or go on a busy car traffic road. Dearie's full suits to ...a non-profit organization that provides job search advice, homeless services/shelter. Now, his full curved ergonomic wireless keyboard to a good local friend who knew dearie. She would always spend a dinner with us whenever he was in town. He had alot of knowledge of various trends within the Canadian cycling advocacy community in various provinces. I'm glad to give stuff that will have meaning /use to others. Meanwhile, there's a ton of wires/cables, I still haven't figured out how to re-use, that dearie had a knack for re-using and plugging into 100 different places. Then there's a Mac hard drive. Would that be compatible to a PC computer? I don't see why not. . I know...it's taken a long time. And it's not quite over.

  35. Listening to vinyl tonight. I was struck by missed opportunities. Karen Carpenter and her brother ruled the airwaves from 1969 to 1973. I wasn’t a fan of their music but she had a voice. She seemed like she was locked into a narrow category of music that she couldn’t escape. It’s a shame that she couldn’t cross genres or explore her options. Many artists at the time crossed boundaries. I see her as playing with the Grateful Dead, the Band, and a fourth member of the Trio: Dolly Parton, Emmy Lou Harris, and Linda Rondstat. Hell, she would have rounded out the Traveling Wilburys very nicely. What do you think?

  44. Just watch. You’ll lose ten pounds, feel more energy, ride faster, hit some wet leaves on a turn, go down hard, lay in the hospital for a week, get the faint satisfaction of a few last words, and then close your eyes for the sleep without dreams. Ah, I love it when a plan comes together.
