  1. To visit an Amish donut shop on my road today. We got there and they said they were still making them. They said they would have some ready in 15 minutes. A hot fresh Amish donut is to die for. I also took her to an Amish bakery. We have enough baked goods to keep us for a week.

  2. My dog, Aidan, unfortunately, had to cross the rainbow bridge this week. She's 16 and has been in heart failure for several years. She's been strong and resilient for years on the medications and overall just a happy old-timer. Over the weekend she took a turn for the worst, stopped eating, throwing up a bit, and began to smell sour. Took her to the vet on Tuesday and confirmed the medication for the heart failure has contributed to renal failure. Took her in by myself as there was no way my wife could handle it. This was her first dog and child.

  4. If it's anything like the mood ring my mom used to have, when she was happy and in a good mood it turned a nice shade of light blue. When she was angry it'd leave a huge red mark in the middle of my forehead.

  6. YES! I am super pumped. It should be very funny and nostalgic for me. I got a random gift card sent to me from someone that moved out of town. Perfect timing. I was the first person to respond to his post about a free gift card.

  15. Woke at 5:30, greeted Manche and made a cup of coffee. Took the dog out to pee while that water boiled. Manche is a sensible dog, he doesn’t like getting wet so he does his business and gets back inside quickly. Mrs Parsnip gave him his potion for sore throat; can’t feed him for an hour. Washed sheets, then a load of clothes. Peeled and diced two butternut squash while a pan of bacon cooked. Squash and some carrots are roasting right now and I’m enjoying a second cup of coffee with some toast and bacon. Prepared some chile peppers for chile powder (New Mexico, pasilla, and de Arbol). Plans for the day are making soup, chili, and cornbread.

  16. Have come to the conclusion that time travels ... faster. Only we can capture and remember essence of moments we treasure. Yesterday for exercise. Will be off bike for a few days. More than ever, the last few days has been like past, present and near future fused into 1. Some tears because of dearie...which it would have been him I would have retired 2 yrs. earlier. Have stuffed a small empty bike pannier into luggage, so that I can have it in Toronto and then leave it behind with sis. It is where my old bike that I rode for 14 yrs. in Toronto. I gave it away forever there. So there is a bike for me to use whenever I visited family whom I haven't seen for a yr. Niece when she was shorter, did ride it. Now she's around 5'9".

  17. Made about the best pasta I've ever made, top 5 for sure. Tomato sauce, peppers, onions, a dash of this and a shake of that, a goodly pinch of that, Italian sausage, hot and sweet, and it is perfection. And I'll never do it again. But I'll try

  20. We each ate two of them on the way home. I imagine this will become a regular stop from now on. I discovered this place while riding my gravel bike. The road is only one car wide on that end. If a car or buggy is coming the other way somebody has to pull off the road to let the other one by. This was the first time Judie was inside an Amish house. She was impressed.

  34. Here's the complete batch: chunky yellow, orange and red tomatoes, food-processor-fine-size onions, bell peppers, and garlic, tomato paste, sugar and seasonings: oregano, basil, sugar, salt, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and bay leaves. It tastes good and chunky. It's about 7-8 quarts in a 10 quart pot initially at 2:30 pm and will boil for a couple hours until it's thicker and 1-2 quarts less. Then I can for the first time, setting aside a pint for use this week! It looks like it's going to have extra-chunky tomatoes which is what I'm after. Maybe the same for onions and peppers next time.
