  1. Didn’t go quite as planned. We left the parking area at 9:30 sunny and 20 degrees, perfect. After 4 miles we hit the intersection with a popular ski trail. Visited with a few skiers while we grabbed a snack. From there the steep climb began. We hadn’t gone a quarter mile and we met a group of two couples descending. One of the women had injured her knee and couldn’t walk at all on it. We helped get her back to the junction and then the 2 miles to the parking area they had started from. Two of use carried her the whole way. Arrived at their car around 4 pm they dropped one guy where they were staying and he came back and gave us a ride to our vehicles 6 miles away. We then went for burgers n beers😁

  2. I was just sure the Fountain Hills concours was today. We got to the lake. Nothing. I looked up the show again. It’s in 2 weeks! Neither of us felt like walking around their cute downtown. Maybe some other time. WoW mentioned on the way she would like to check out Tortilla Flat sometime. We were in the Miata. It looked to be a little over an hour drive on a hopefully scenic road. Boy was it! We stumbled onto Salt River Park-a beautiful drive through some mountainous desert. As we turned off Hwy 87, I noticed nice pavement and wide bike lanes. Shortly after I saw a cyclist, and another and more. It was a cycle paradise! Several miles of bike lanes, almost no stop signs, but multiple signs telling cars not to block the bike lanes! I’m going back up there in a few weeks. We got to Tortilla Flat and it was the tourist trap I expected, but in the best way. Most people there were in our age bracket. The band on the patio was playing a mix of classic rock and country. We shared some loaded nachos and a drink, wandered the gift shop and watched the shootout re-enactment and checked out the museum. Just a nice way to accidentally spend an afternoon.

  3. Yesterday I received amazing magic from the sunshine crew. These are amazing. I have tried others but this variety totally eliminates the nausea from my medication. Thank you.

  4. @petitepedal is awaiting surgery and she's busy lugging out her refrigerator to clean the coils and removing wall paper. It wouldn't occur to me to do any of these things and I'm not having surgery. I think she should stop all this productive stuff and take a nap to help make me feel better about myself.

  6. mr and I were just talking about how people fill their garage with stuff and then their cars sit outside deteriorating in the weather. I mean, come on? How are you going to spend all that money in a house with a garage and then use it to shelter boxes of second-hand stuff, old furniture, inert nuclear weapons, tools that maybe used to operate, several projects you’ll maybe get to, and let your car bake in the sun?

  10. A very useful and versatile vegetable. Boil em, mash em, fry em. It’s all good. Tonight I made potatoes Anna. Thinly sliced and layered in a skillet with bacon grease, garlic, salt, pepper, and thyme. Baked at 425 for an hour. These are well done where I wanted medium rare. Live and learn.

  11. I use orange in the fall...I use white for winter..red for Valentine maybe green for spring and St. Pat's.. Well my red set is huge..and I have no green...obviously I need to stop at a craft store..purple might be a nice change. Last year I filled a big glass vase with white lights..from a stash of used lights..this year...they twinkle (probably had twinkle lights on my deck one Christmas)..

  14. It's a hobby. This is what happens when you work on DARPA research projects too often. You can get your very own Genie on the old Monogram F-101 Voodoo model kit. On the other hand, you should see what I know about Soviet systems.

  18. Yesterday I made Bfast for the crew while in the cabin. I fried up a bunch of bacon & boiled some cubed potatos. I then chopped up an onion, put it in the bacon grease & then added the potatoes. I cooked them low & slow for a nice brown crisp. WOChrisL asked how I made them as they really tasted better than I normally make them. I told her it was the environment. Bfast in a mountain cabin makes everything better…. Good thing she’s not getting her cholesterol checked anytime soon! 😂

  23. I was my mother's estate executor and closed the estate, did the required newspaper notice, etc. The I found she had an unpaid $300 utility bill. I decided to pay it to BGE. At the same time, before my payment registered, BGE sold my mother's debt to a collection agency. I had a hell of a time with them, even though I legally didn't need to pay them a cent. I'd get nuisance calls at 2 am on weeknights, etc. demanding payment. I arranged a 3-way phone call with the debt collector and BGE where the BGE rep said I had paid them the bill. The debt collector didn't care and wanted his money. I got the BGE rep's name in case I decided to sue. I looked up the collection company online, found the name of the VP in charge of collecting, and emailed him a letter explaining the situation and politely saying my next step was hiring a lawyer and getting a proper payment for the harassment. The next day, I got a phone call from the VP's assistant and, in 60 seconds it was all over. It pays to be the squeaky wheel!

  30. Air-2 Genie was an unguided air to air missile carried by cold war interceptors to defend our northern borders from swarms of Russian Bombers back in the 50's and 60's. It would be used against a multiple aircraft formation from a distance of up to 6 miles. Normally the term inert is applied to practice weapons or bombs carried in drills that have no fuel or warheads. I guess the air force prefers the word inert instead of dummy.

  33. Got the shear pin in the fan portion of the tractor snowblower and lowered the shoes so it doesn't pick up rocks. Tried to shovel away so e of the snow that slid off the metal camp roof onto the sidewalk. Didn't get it clean, but it's kinda level. Went for a walk in the woods. Camp just ain't the same without HoSmudge.

  38. Yeah - I would assume an estate is first settled up - bills paid and assets ascertained. Whatever is left after all debts are cleared gets distributed according to a will or court. I don't think anyone needs to accept executor duties. My wife was 4th in line and said okay after the first three folks said NO WAY. There was one more option after her, and then would have fallen to an appointed one. IOW, the mess can be left to a person who gets paid to do it as their regular job.

  40. Somewhere in my basement is a tile saw used to cut lots of tile. Mixing mortar for the tile, I needed a 1/2 inch drill and the steel egg beater to mix it. More than a few tools for taping drywall. Torch, solder, pipe cutter, for copper pipes. I borrowed a mitter saw for the wood trim work. Yeah I have acquired more than a few tools over the years.
