Rattlecan ★ Posted January 11, 2018 Share #4 Posted January 11, 2018 Good thing Steve has his musical talent to fall back on if that comedy thing doesn't work out for him. 1

Good one. I was going to comment on the physical similarities between him and the Actor Steve Martin.

Longjohn ★ Posted January 11, 2018 Share #8 Posted January 11, 2018 My son usually plays a banjo on one song on each album because he knows I like banjo.

Square Wheels Posted January 11, 2018 Share #11 Posted January 11, 2018 Never cared for the twangy sound of a banjo. Plus, all I can ever think of is this.

I Was thinking Bela Fleck, but Martin's skill is quite underrated. Reminds to get my banjo back down off the wall, I'm way overdue for some practice. 1
jsharr ★ Posted January 11, 2018 Share #15 Posted January 11, 2018 Is banjo the bagpipe of the south? Is it played so your mouth is free to drink moonshine, smoke a corn cob pipe and kiss your sister?
MickinMD ★ Posted January 12, 2018 Share #16 Posted January 12, 2018 Most people today play "Scruggs style" aka "Three Finger Style" banjo. I first learned with Pete Seeger's banjo book in the '60's but it wasn't much different than strumming a guitar. Then I learned the three finger, with three metal finger picks, Scruggs style and it was a tremendously improved sound. I got good with Cripple Creek, which is the first bluegrass banjo piece for many. I never got advanced enough to anticipate fill-in notes - I began studying piano and concentrated on that. But if you can do it, you can make almost any melody or cord progression sound as cool as the Beverly Hillbillies Theme, Foggy Mountain Breakdown, etc.
