Popular Post Further Posted July 21, 2019 Popular Post Share #1 Posted July 21, 2019 On gravel, worrying about my tires, I stopped and discovered that I couldn't track stand forever, and that my Keos work well, hold that shoe right in place Hadn't seen anybody in 10 minutes, topple over and there is a traffic jam on top of the mountain. A guy rolled down his window and asked if I was OK. I wanted to curse, I had already kicked the bike away from me, but respect for someone that still gives a shit about his fellow beings, made me say I'm OK, thank you for asking. Hella dent in my pride, tremendous chain ring tat, and a wee scratch on my knee I've had worse wrecks 2 3
Popular Post smudge ★ Posted July 21, 2019 Popular Post Share #2 Posted July 21, 2019 Sonofabitch!!! Never fails. You do a great maneuver, and no one around for 100 miles. You topple over cuz your shoes are attached to your pedals, and the whole county is there to see it happen! Sorry man. 3
ChrisL Posted July 21, 2019 Share #3 Posted July 21, 2019 Yeah happens to the best of us. Hopefully just a dent to your pride and not your bike.
Page Turner Posted July 21, 2019 Share #4 Posted July 21, 2019 ...I hate falling on gravel. You always end up finding little bits of it festering in your skin later on.

donkpow Posted July 21, 2019 Share #6 Posted July 21, 2019 It's a shocking revelation when it becomes apparent that one needs to put a foot on the ground while stopped.
Forum Administrator Posted July 21, 2019 Share #7 Posted July 21, 2019 Because I tend to hurt myself in strange ways, I was very happy when I completed my bike trip without so much as a scratch on me. I had a couple of hours to kill in D.C. so I decided to ride around looking at the monuments and stuff. The last place I was heading was the Capitol. The bike lane there is in the middle of the road. As I am riding, I see a couple stopped in the crosswalk. I know he was not paying attention and was positive that we was going to step out in front of me to take a picture of the Capitol. I slow down. Slow down even more. I'll be damned if as soon as I am next to him, he doesn't step right into me and knock me over. 1 1
MickinMD ★ Posted July 21, 2019 Share #8 Posted July 21, 2019 The times I've felt really stupid was when the path sloped downhill from right to left and, when I stopped the bike, I put my left foot down, not thinking the ground under my foot was a foot lower than the bottom of my tires were. Of course, there was usually a sticker bush of some kind I tumbled into. 1
Square Wheels Posted July 21, 2019 Share #9 Posted July 21, 2019 The last time I tipped over (about a month ago), naturally I fell into traffic. I could easily have been run over if the person had been texting. I was lucky that this millennial appeared to be taking a break from texting and simply drove around me (didn't bother to ask if I was OK). I've been bumped and bruised from tipping over, but it's usually the ego that takes the biggest hit.

Zealot Posted July 21, 2019 Share #11 Posted July 21, 2019 I think that happens to all of us. Kind of a rite of passage. Wear it well, @Further. No shame.
Kzoo Posted July 21, 2019 Share #12 Posted July 21, 2019 I would say, “ I haven’t toppled over since...” but then I would Shirley topple over on my next ride - so I won’t.
groupw Posted July 21, 2019 Share #13 Posted July 21, 2019 I should have had a big one when I bought my new shoes. Put on the cleats and thought I had them tight. That’s what I get for thinking! I couldn’t get unclipped with either foot! I circled once and grabbed the bed of my pickup and took my shoes off while they were still attached to the pedals. Made sure to tighten the cleats even more before my next attempt!
