Popular Post Mr. Beanz Posted June 18, 2022 Popular Post Share #752 Posted June 18, 2022 45 miles at 17.4 average speed. Ran into my buddy Alyce then started riding together. She rode strong today. 😄 Ran into Ron & Dixie on their tandem at the beach. I took their wheel for a bit then Alyce went by. Went up a little hill and knowing tandems, I held back a bit so they could take my wheel getting back up to speed. I figured we would catch back up to Alyce but she got a little smaller. So I figured a little more we'll catch back up but then she got even smaller. Then smaller, and smaller, and smaller ha ha ha. Strong ride by Alyce today and at that point, figured I'd work with the tandem. Funny, the tandem pulled away when we left the coast for the final 14 mile stretch. I was just getting on the trail but I closed the gap of 50 yards. Then I took the front exchanging turns. But I kept dropping them but I'd slow down so they could get back on as I hate dropping anyone who will work with me. Then a bit later Ron asked, "how did you get so strong?". I told him it's the walking in steel toe boots every day. 😄 7
Popular Post TrentonMakes Posted June 19, 2022 Popular Post Share #753 Posted June 19, 2022 Got out for 50 miles and change yesterday, with 2,630 feet of climbing. (375 YTD) Aside from a gusty wind the weather was absolutely perfect, blue skies with a few clouds and around 70 degrees. I think I saw as many other cyclists out there as I have ever seen in this area. This was my longest ride since a 69-mile day in August 2017! The day was slightly sullied by the guy in the giant Ford pickup, who passed me with maybe a foot to spare on a deserted country road. I wish he was more like the guy in the giant Dodge pickup five minutes earlier, who gave me a wide berth (yet left me in a cloud of pot smoke). Took a few photos too, you know, of the hellscape that is New Jersey . Back to the Sourlands! Hay field off Route 31 Do you see anything wrong with this picture? ...how about now? I couldn't believe I saw this (actually two of them in a row like this)... left a msg for the County Highway Department. Someone's going over the bars. I wasn't able to slide it back. Hopewell, NJ My favorite route up Sourland Mountain. In many places the creek still shows signs of the big flood last year - and the three culverts that washed out across this road. Vineyard off Rocktown Road This was one of my favorite finds on this trip - old school neon at a local hardware store in Lambertville, NJ The River Horse Brewery relocated to my town a handful of years ago now, but their original home in Lambertville still bears their sign. A peek at the Delaware River from Lambertville... the bridge leads to New Hope, PA on the other side. Bridge Street, Lambertville About to walk across the Washington Crossing Bridge into PA... the bridge is about 850 feet long, with two-way traffic though the roadway is not quite 16 feet. (A typical single travel lane is 12 feet... typical parking space is 8 or 9 feet). As you walk across you often see car mirrors striking the sides of the bridge. One of my 2022 cycling goals achieved - a day with one mile for every trip I've made around the sun. 9
