TrentonMakes Posted January 24, 2018 Share #1 Posted January 24, 2018 I have a co-worker with whom I see eye-to-eye on a lot of things related to "classic" comedies, from 70s sitcoms to Looney Tunes to movies. But I just learned something disturbing: while he agrees with me that Caddyshack is a "classic".... he thinks Airplane! is "stupid". I'm at a loss. Is there any explanation for this? Airplane! is genius, pure and simple - right? 1
Wilbur ★ Posted January 24, 2018 Share #2 Posted January 24, 2018 I will not comment on this topic other than to say, your conclusion is correct.

Razors Edge ★ Posted January 24, 2018 Share #4 Posted January 24, 2018 Well, as a kid, I broke the rewind button right around the 45sec mark Spoiler Tom 1
TrentonMakes Posted January 24, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted January 24, 2018 Granted, my general criteria aren't quite the same as the Academy's, but if I had to pick just one movie as my all time favorite, just one, it would be Airplane! I am wounded! @Razors Edge, I don't need to watch your clip to know what you are talking about. but maybe I should anyway, just to be sure. 1
donkpow Posted January 24, 2018 Share #6 Posted January 24, 2018 Airplane! is a spoof of the 70's aircraft disaster films.

jsharr ★ Posted January 24, 2018 Share #8 Posted January 24, 2018 Airplane is second tier at best compared to Caddyshack, Animal House and Fletch. It is like Police Academy. A series of disjointed jokes strung together in hopes that it will make a story line.

Ralphie ★ Posted January 25, 2018 Share #10 Posted January 25, 2018 The real question is what is next after Caddyshack and Airplane! I say either Office Space, Blazing Saddles, or Spaceballs. Or Dumb and Dumber.

Actually it's a spoof of a 1957 aircraft disaster film. Check out Zero Hour! sometime. You'll be shocked as to how close Airplane!'s script follows Zero Hour! including a lot of the dialog. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_Hour!_(1957_film) 2

TrentonMakes Posted January 25, 2018 Author Share #16 Posted January 25, 2018 I will ignore the naysayers. When you want to laugh and not think too much..... Blazing Saddles, Animal House... also This Is Spinal Tap. 1
Randomguy Posted January 25, 2018 Share #17 Posted January 25, 2018 I would agree that most people would consider Caddyshack to be a classic, I thought Airplane was the better film.
