  1. The bike shop that I build wheels for has asked if I would come in a couple days a week. I worked part time for them a couple of years ago while I was still on the road part time, so they know what they're getting, and so do I. Looking forward to having a few extra bucks and learning some of that new tech that's out there. This is a high end road shop, so I'll be getting to play with all the new toys.

  2. Granddaughter turns nine years old today. Some friends of my son invited him to have her party at their house and use the pool. They just invited one other family to the party and my wife and I but my wife has to get up too early so she didn't go. Between the two families they have ten children so that was plenty of excitement for the pool party. I was busy lifeguarding so didn't get as many pictures as I would have liked but here are a few. The pool birthday girl birthday girl again, she got girl stuff for her birthday and really liked it. The brothers misunderstood when they were told to wear their suits so they didn't swim. Here they are on my lap listening to me tell them how handsome they look while their mom was getting one of the girls ready.

  4. And just got back. Was in Dingle County Kerry for five days. Entrance to Dingle Bay from the shore The Blasket Islands from Slea Head Carved standing stone in an early Christian monastic settlement Fresco of St. Bridget in the old convent building. There's a series of frescos all using local people as models. Bus stop made from an upturned currach traditional fishing boat in Dingle that advertises beer from a local micro-brewery. I tried a pint and it was good. Tom Crean was born nearby in Annascaul. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Crean_(explorer) Pub in Annascaul that Crean retired to. Stopped on way home to take pics but too early as pub didn't open till noon.

  6. Several years ago on the LF someone introduced me to crock pot pulled pork. Pretty tasty and it's become a regular on our menu. However my neighbor I always hook up with soup gave me a big container of pulled pork he did up on his grill. OMG, smokey, tender but not mushy like crock pot pulled pork. It was freaking delish with no BBQ sauce. I'be been doing it all wrong for years....

  7. Yes. We don't have a spare bedroom, but we can set up the camper in the back driveway. It is quite comfy, actually. Despite the spartan sleeping arrangement, the food is worth the visit.

  8. As Wade and I were driving to East Texas this AM to help Mom and Dad get the boat sold and loaded on the trailer to get to it's new home, we were both a bit quiet. Wade likes reggae, so we listened to a reggae station on the way down. On the way home, Wade was even quieter and I was tired of reggae so I surfed around the channels looking for some good Texas Red Dirt music. Ended up on a bluegrass station and heard this. Sort of fits the mood I have been in lately and helped me realize I may need my comfort served from the cross and not on the rocks.

  21. I have chargers and cords stashed all over the house for all my electronic gizmos, phone, helmet cam, bluetooth, etc. Only the phone and bluetooth share the same type plug. In my defence, trying to remember where they all are helps keep my brain sharp as old age sets in.

  22. My mom lived on insulin for 40 years and 3 of my siblings are on it. They actually said their diabetes management got easier once they switched to insulin. I'm not there yet but am following the path of my siblings who are on insulin so know it' in my future. Many people feel going to insulin is a failure in their diabetes management but I think it's just part of the process for many diabetics and not necessarily due to a failure to manage it.

  25. My brother is a few years older than me and had an athletic past but is pretty out of shape at the moment. He's been talking about doing the local Over the Hump Mtn bike races and said it would be a good goal to get back in shape. He asked me if I wanted to do it with him and although I don't, said sure, if you do it I'll do it. I figure that way he'll be motivated to ride and work out if I do it with him. He called me Friday and said, OK I signed us up for the race, we're in May 9th.... Oh great, looks like I'm doing a race! I don't mind doing it with him, it'll be fun and I hope he uses this as motivation to train and get some fitness. He's got a long way to go though. Two weeks ago we rode and didn't even cover the distance of the race and it kicked his ass.

  26. 193.2 miles, the Spring Solvang Double Century. 4th time I have ridden that route (actually the 5th... not really counting the first time since I bonked at mile 170 then). Had a good time. May post a report in the Rides forum

  31. Old school of thought. Oil is very dense in calories so if weight is a concern probably true but not everyone agrees with that anymore. Everything you ever learned about nutrition is in question these days. People got burned on the margarine is healthy for you scam that ran for over fifty years and the fake sweeteners that were supposed to be the healthy choice but will kill you scams.

  32. Just great. Two more songs to learn. That makes 14. That's the thing about songs. There's a message there for everyone, you just have to listen. It's when the music and the lyrics sync up to what someone is searching for is when it really hits home. I don't play or sing very well, but when I'm down I can pick up my guitar and sing my blues away because I know the words to a lot of songs.

  34. I gave my last beer of the day to the pretty lady I was shooting with today! It was her first time in the studio since high school (not quite 40, now) and she was pretty nervous. I don't normally provide drinks, but she is a running friend and we have shared a few post-run before. I could tell she just needed to take the edge off.
